Hallowed (Unearthly #2) by Cynthia Hand

Goodreads Summary:
For months part-angel Clara Gardner trained to face the raging forest fire from her visions and rescue the alluring and mysterious Christian Prescott from the blaze. But nothing could prepare her for the fateful decisions she would be forced to make that day, or the startling revelation that her purpose—the task she was put on earth to accomplish—is not as straightforward as she thought.
Now, torn between her increasingly complicated feelings for Christian and her love for her boyfriend, Tucker, Clara struggles to make sense of what she was supposed to do the day of the fire. And, as she is drawn further into the world of part angels and the growing conflict between White Wings and Black Wings, Clara learns of the terrifying new reality that she must face: Someone close to her will die in a matter of months. With her future uncertain, the only thing Clara knows for sure is that the fire was just the beginning.

My Review:
I read Hallowed in about 2 days when I finally had time to get lost in a book. And get lost I did. This book surpasses the first by a lot. Cynthia Hand out did herself here. This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. Clara went from child who couldn’t decide who she loved to a young woman before my eyes. In this book Clara tries to keep the ones she loves safe especially Tucker. She struggles with the fact that her and Tucker are different and have different lives ahead. Clara keeps dreaming about walking through a very pretty place with rose bushes and her friends. I won't say what this dream means because it is a huge part of the book. She is also still struggling with her purpose that for a while she feels like she has failed. However it is more complicated than that and involves more than just her. Her purpose is intertwined with others and their purposes are also part of her. People who are close to her are intertwined. We also learn about Jeffery’s purpose and how much he struggles with life changing events in this book.

When I read book one I was totally team Tucker. Now with book two I am team Christian. He changed so much in this book and we learn more about him and his family. I also didn’t like how Tucker’s life was at risk by Clara wanting to be with him. I cried more than once during this book because of the emotional pain that Clara goes through and the decisions she must make. There really is no more to say than Clara went from child to young women during this book and it was a nice change from the typical do I love Tucker or do I love Christian, that I expected from this book. I was pleasantly surprised that more important things took precedent to teenage love triangles. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book and I hope book three comes soon!

Blood Like Poison free for Kindle!!!

This is the first book in the series and it was an amazing series! I will have my reviews of this series up this weekend! But, it's free on the Kindle right now and if you are looking for a new series I would recommend this one!

Goodreads Summary:

Like most seventeen year olds, Ridley Heller thought she had her future all planned out. What she wanted most in life was to get out of small town Harker. Her only goal was to keep her mouth shut and her grades high so she could win a cheerleading scholarship to Stanford. But that was before she met Bo.

In Ridley's wildest dreams, she could never have planned for someone like Bo, for a love so intense it left her breathless. No human girl could.

A haunting stranger that watched her from afar, Bo stole Ridley's heart from the moment she laid eyes on him. But he has secrets. Bo's a vampire. Both his past and his present are a danger to Ridley, but the biggest threat is not her blood; it's her heart. He's feeding a thirst for revenge that will cost him his life, and it may already be too late.

The more darkness Ridley uncovers, the more she realizes that her life will never be the same-with or without Bo. Can she sacrifice her future and her heart for someone who has a death wish?

Beautiful Demons (Peachville High Demons #1) by Sara Cannon

Goodreads Review:
Harper Madison isn't like other girls. She has extraordinary powers, but her inability to control them has gotten her kicked from so many foster homes she's lost count. Shadowford Home is her last chance, and she hopes Peachville High will be the fresh start she needs. But when evidence ties her to the gruesome murder of a Demons cheerleader, Harper discovers this small town has a big secret.

My Review:
So, I know I’m behind on reading this series. It has been on my list for a while. I actually got this as a free ebook from the author during the Indelibles on Fire Blog Hop. When I first saw this book I thought it was going to be about demons, demons, demons. I was wrong. This book had it all! Love, friendship, and betrayal. I felt so much of a connection with Harper. The girl that didn’t fit in in high school. I have been there, done that! And yea, cheerleaders weren’t my favorite people. I was so mad when she started to hang out with them even though I knew the real reason why she did.

The story starts with Harper having to go to a girls home in Shadowford where she meets a very nice girl named Agnes and they become close friends. They eventually try out for the cheerleading team together. Harper is instructed from day one to not go to the third floor of the home. So what does she do you ask?? Go to the third floor of course! Who wouldn’t! This leads to a crazy weird room that basically opens a can of worms.

I felt like the romance between her and Jackson was a little rushed but, then I remember what it was like in high school and then I didn’t think it was rushed haha. I really liked him and I hope that everything works out. The relationship with the QB of the football team always felt fake to me. And there are reasons for that. But, you have to read to find them out!

I read this book in a day and can’t wait to read book 2! Which I have and review of that one to come soon!

Hallowed by Cynthia Hand released today!!

I loved the first book Unearthly. I can't wait to start reading this book tonight! I am hoping there is a lot more Clara and Tucker!

Described by Richelle Mead as “utterly captivating,” Unearthly received outstanding reviews, garnered accolades from New York Times bestselling authors, and was named an Indie Next Pick. In this heart-wrenching sequel, Cynthia Hand expertly captures the all-consuming joy of first love—and the agony of loss. This beautifully woven tale will appeal to fans of Lauren Kate, Becca Fitzpatrick, and Aprilynne Pike.

Between (Crossroads 2) by Mary Ting

Goodreads Summary:
As the alkins head back to Crossroads, Claudia leads her normal life; but not for long. Having a special soul, Claudia attracts danger, and she soon finds out who Gamma asked to watch over her. The Twelve, known as Divine Elders on Earth, are very much involved when they find out that Aliah, one of the God’s first angels, escaped from the Abyss when the gates were opened by Aden. Needing Claudia’s soul to escape the only place Aliah can reside–a place between Heaven and Earth–he sends his demons in search of all Claudia Emersons on Earth. Taking her soul will enable him to be released from Between and cross over to Crossroads, which would give him immense power. As more secrets are revealed Claudia learns about the venators—nephilim, demon hunters. Now two opposing forces must work together in order to save Claudia and humanity from the most dangerous angel ever created. But along the way, trust becomes a big issue. Will love be enough to keep Claudia and Michael together? Who will make the ultimate sacrifice? Who will betray them all?

My Review:
Between was an amazing follow up to Crossroads. I felt such strong feelings with this book. The pain and sadness that Claudia felt with the loss of her Gamma and her love for Michael. Mary Ting has an amazing gift of truly making you feel with her characters.

The romance between Michael and Claudia is so sweet. They are such a cute couple! The story is written in such a way that you can just tell how much they love each other and it is worded so perfectly. And despite what I thought what I would feel when she had very slight feelings for Austin, I still liked him even though I am defiantly cheering for Michael. The secondary characters are superb! Davin is so funny with him trying to learn how to talk like a human. It’s so cute! And Vivian is the perfect friend. I don’t know why but, I really enjoyed Davin this time around. And he was so sweet to Michael during the end of the book.

The ending left me heartbroken on so many levels! I cried for Michael when he was forced into doing probably one of the hardest things in the world aside from killing Claudia. I was like NOOOO!! I won’t tell you what it was you have to actually read the book! Michael’s pain was so evident during that part. The blood seekers should also be an interesting twist. I can honestly say I have no idea what is going to happen. I hope there is a third book and that it comes out FAST! 5 stars!!

Doomed (Ancient Legend 2) by Jayde Scott

Goodreads Summary:
Enter a paranormal world of dark magic, rituals, love bonds and legends…

Fallen angel Cassandra wasn't supposed to fall in love with Dallas. It should've been just a bit of fun she couldn't resist. The bond they share could save her from her curse before she's forever bound to Hell. Trouble is, she's Lucifer's daughter and Dallas is mortal, and mortals don't survive in Cass's world. When strange things are starting to happen in Hell, Cass knows she must protect Dallas at all costs because where Cass comes from, losing one's twin flame is a fate worse than death...

Will chaos-loving Cassandra find a way to sway her immortal family in time with a revengeful killer wracking havoc in Hell in her quest to get the one thing half the paranormal world desires?

DOOMED (first edition titled BEELZEBUB GIRL) is the second book in the Ancient Legends series by Jayde Scott.

My Review:
Like book 1 of this series I read Doomed within a couple of days of purchasing it. This book follows the story of Cass and Dallas. Who are also a bonded couple! I enjoyed Cass in the first book because of her wit and humorous character, which continued in Doomed. She’s just a fun character with a snarky personality and I love it. The trouble is Dallas is human and if he dies that would leave Cass a monster feeding on death and pain. So when your mortal boyfriend needs protection where do you go? Well Hell of course! The description of this hot spot is done very well! And lets just say the boss of down below is not depicted as you may think.

Cass and Dallas’s relationship moves pretty fast but, for good reason. Cass needs commitment! Even though the only knew each other for a short time they would do anything for each other. As well as being like an old married couple sometimes. Even though they are bonded like Amber and Aiden their relationship is still different which is nice. Oh yea, and Amber and Aiden are still in this book too! The whole group is back in full force which is awesome because I loved all the characters in these books~! The cliffhanger and the end will leave you shocked and anxiously waiting to find out what happens! I would give this book 5 stars as well and would highly recommend this series!

A Job from Hell (Ancient Legends 1) by Jayde Scott

Goodreads Summary:
In a world of love bonds, rituals, dark magic, ancient enemies and immortals, nothing is as it seems and no one can be trusted.

Seventeen-year-old Amber enters the paranormal world by chance when her brother, Dallas, sets her up with a summer job in Scotland. Dallas has spied something in the woods he thinks could make them rich beyond their wildest dreams. But instead of finding riches, Amber unknowingly enters a paranormal race—and promptly wins the first prize—a prize for which many would kill. Soon, she discovers her new boss, Aidan, didn’t employ her for her astounding housekeeping skills and he isn't who he claims to be either.

As the dark forces slowly conspire against Amber, her naivety and love for Aidan catapults her into a calamitous series of otherworldly events. With every immortal creature hunting for her, whom can she trust with her life?

My Review:
This book was truly one of the best vampire books I have ever read. It has a great plot full of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. I read this book in about a day. Little did Amber know that a housekeeping job in a mansion would lead to such crazy events! The “gift” that she wins during the race isn’t quite the gift you would expect.

The new company that Amber keeps at the mansion is quite the group. Kieran is hilarious and was a great secondary character. I also adored Cass! The fun loving daughter of Lucifer! All around the secondary characters in this book were great. Dallas played a small but, good role as well. There were so many different types of paranormal characters in this book. It must have taken a long time to get them all figured out. But, I love that kind of book so naturally this one called to me!

Then there’s the romance. Amber actually tries to not fall for Aiden. However, they share a special bong that makes him hard to resist. I liked that the romance didn’t feel rushed like a “your hot and I’m going to fall madly in love with you now!” This book left me craving to find out what would happen next! I give it 5 stars!

Obsidian (Lux 1) by Jennifer Armentrout

Goodreads Summary:
Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and
eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and
Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

My Review:
This was by far one of my favorite books of the year. I was a little iffy about aliens but, trust me these are aliens you want to read about! Katy moves to a new town and quickly finds out that her neighbor is a pretty hot guy that happens to be kind of a jerk haha. She ends up hanging out with him more then she thought and he is tolerable…sometimes.

The chemistry between Daemon and Katy is definitely there! Even if they are snarky at each other a lot of the time. It brings a whole new meaning to the love/hate relationship. About halfway through this book I was like, if they don’t kiss already I am going to go crazy! I’m so glad they did even if it turned out horribly. One of my absolute favorite things was Daemon calling Katy, Kitten. It was the perfect annoyingly sweet thing ever! Deep down I think Katy likes it when Daemon calls her that.

Katys relationship with Dee is also interesting. They seem like they fit together so nicely as friends. And the way Daemon is so protective of his sister is actually really nice. Dee is a loveable character and I hope she finds true love!

The ending when all hell breaks loose and Daemon is on his knees holding Katy is heart stopping. I really felt a connection with these characters. It is probably a weird scene to have as a favorite but, it showed the loving part of Daemon as Katy is on the brink of death. I don’t think I could possibly list all of the positive things about this book. Read it people!!! I would highly recommend any of the books by Jennifer Armentrout and don't forget to check out all the awesomeness of Daemon Invasion!!! Some amazing prizes going out!

Half-Blood (Covenant 1) by Jennifer Armentrout

Goodreads Summary:
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

My Review:
Half-Blood starts off right where Daimon left off. Alex ends up back at the Covenant with Aiden and actually ends up training with him! It’s either that or become a servant which is a crazy alternative! Throughout the training she begins to have feelings towards Aiden which is a major no no! Aiden is a Pure and Alex is a half. This kind of relationship is forbidden. There is something about forbidden love that makes a book great! Eventually another young man named Seth shows up! He turns out to be a big deal in this story.

Between Seth and Aiden I sense a serious love triangle or some sort of craziness to come between these three. I can’t wait to see what happens with this triangle. What’s weird is I usually don’t like triangles. But, for some reason with Seth I wouldn’t mind if there was a love triangle here. Something about his character makes him pretty interesting.

There is also a part at the end where she actually gets bitten up by some daimons.  They apparently don’t heal quite right and I am curious to see if anything happens with that or if I am just reading into it to much. I feel a plot twist coming!

Half-blood looks to be a new refreshing take on descendants of the gods and I can’t wait to see what happens next. There are so many possibilities of what could happen in the future installments. Jennifer Armentrout has become one of my favorite authors and I read all her books that were out last year so I figured she deserved to have all my 5 star reviews on the blog.

Daimon (Conenant 0.5) by Jennifer Armentrout

Goodreads Summary:
For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals—pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards... and that she'll never be prepared for that duty.

According to her mother, that’s a good thing.

But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return—the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death… because she's being hunted by the very creatures she'd once trained to kill.

The daimons have found her.

My Review:
I was thinking that this was going to be a long book but, it was really short. It was a very good back story to Half-blood. If you haven't read Half-Blood yet I would highly recommend you read this book first. It gives a very good back story to what is going on in Half-Blood.

I liked Alex instantly. She is a very strong female character which I love in books! Especially with all the tragedy that took place in this short story. Alex lost someone that she loved very much as was forced to grow up fast. There is quite a bit of action too as Alex has to fight for her life. There is help that finally comes to her aid and Alex is forced to go back to a place she swore she would never return to...The covenant. Which leads us to the next book in the series Half-Blood. I give this book 5 stars as a great lead in to Half-Blood!

Satan's Stone by H.M. Ward Review

Goodreads Summary:
A single stone can heal the Sapphire Serum that's poisoning Ivy Taylor and destroy the powerful demon who is hunting her—but she has to find it first. Forced into an alliance with her worst enemy, Ivy searches for Satan's Stone. But she learns that the cost of using the stone's power may be more than she can pay. If Ivy fails to retrieve the stone in time, she risks losing more than her soul and her true love—she risks the annihilation of the world.

My Review:
Satan's Stone is the 4th book in H.M. Ward's Demon Kissed series. If you haven't read these books yet I highly recommend them! They just keep getting better and better. In this book Ivy has decided to look for Satan's Stone. She is convinced that this is the only thing that will defeat Kreturus the demon king. She is on a journey to save her friends, family, and the world...no pressure or anything! Things don't go quite according to plan and some huge revelations are made in this book. There was one point where I actually cried...I know right. I felt so bad for Ivy because she seemed to get tortured and beaten a lot in this book. Not in the way you think either. It's all part of the blood bargain!

There is still trouble in paradise between Collin and Ivy. I really hope that their relationship heats back up and they can somehow work through things. There relationship was sooo cute and so sweet that I wouldn't like it if it ended badly. But, given what happened at the end of this book I don't see that happening, which makes me sad. I won't say why because I still want you to enjoy the book!

The story flowed together very well and I was constantly wondering what was going to happen and who was involved with what! It is a story full of action, suspense, love, and heartbreak. All the components of a great story. I have become rather attached to the characters and wanting the best for them despite all the bad things that have now happened. I guess that's another mark of a great series. The next book The 13th Prophecy comes out on March 6, 2012 and yea it is definitely on my calendar already! I could give this book no less then 5 stars.
