Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

Goodreads Summary:
If there’s one thing Mare Barrow knows, it’s that she’s different.

Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.

The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.

Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.

But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.

Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?

The electrifying next installment in the Red Queen series escalates the struggle between the growing rebel army and the blood-segregated world they’ve always known—and pits Mare against the darkness that has grown in her soul.

My Review:
This book picked up right where the first one left off. I was very excited for this one. It did suffer from second book syndrome a little bit. Mare has so much going on around her, within her, and because of her. She has so much pressure coming from every angle. I am not sure how she holds it together as long as she does. She has very little time for anything other then trying to fight for the Reds. Maven is hot on her trail and he will not give up until he has her. He is willing to do so many horrible things to get her back. Killing is only one of them. Will Mare be the savior everyone thinks she is or has she changed into someone she no longer knows?

I feel so bad for Mare. She is on a journey that is turning her into someone she hardly recognizes. War will do that to a person. It changes you in ways you never thought possible. She and her group of rebels are on a mission to find the other people like her. They are scattered across the country and with Maven hunting them it is a race against time. These people have unbelievable powers. They are a huge asset to the Red army. It is not without risk. Their lives are at stake with every rescue attempt. They will not save everyone. Death is following Mare. Will she be able to get the ranks she needs?

There is very little time for romance. I of course am still pulling for our renegade silver prince. They have some interesting moments however they have some seriously tense moments too. Its so hot and cold that I got whiplash. They needed each other to survive this. To be honest I am surprised they survived what they did.

This book ends on quite the cliffhanger and I am desperate to see where it will go from here. I have to wait a bit but, I will be getting the next book.
