Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Goodreads Summary:

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

My Review:
I had wanted to read Cinder for a long time and I finally read it! I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I was worried that with all the hype it was going to be a let down. I was wrong. This was an awesome read! Cinder had somethings in common with Cinderella but, not as much as you would think. Cinder is a cyborg working as a mechanic for her "evil stepmother". There is more involved though in this story. It is futuristic and there is a plague running rampant killing humans. Then there's the looming threat of the Lunars. The people who have mutated after living on the moon. There is a lot going on in this story so keep that in mind :)

Cinder has a lot on her plate with...Price Kai's android, her sister getting the plague, and her horrible stepmother. After her sister gets sick her stepmother sends her in to be a test subject because she's a cyborg. When Cinder is faced with true death from the virus we learn a little bit more about Cinder and her past. Price Kai is already interested in her and now she has the capability of saving the planet. Will she put her life on the line for the one man she cares for? Will he still care after he finds out what she truly is?

Prince Kai is our potential love interest. He however does not know that Cinder is a cyborg rather then 100% human. Prince Kai has been looking for Lunar Princess who is rumored to be dead. Otherwise his only other option to maintain peace between Earth and The Moon is by marrying Queen Levana. This is dangerous because The Lunars have mysterious powers that allow them to put ideas into humans heads and make them do what the Lunar wants. Kai doesn't want to marry Levana but, it seems like the only option at this point. Cinder also makes this a hard decision because he likes her. However, secrets about who and what Cinder really is might tear them apart. I honestly am not sure what will happen between these two.

The story ends with Cinder being a prisoner when an unexpected visitor shows up. I have no idea what will happen in Scarlet (book 2) but, I can't wait to find out!

  5. This was a 5-star read for me too. Originally I was concerned that it would be too sci-fi-ish for my taste, but it wasn't at all.
