Pawn by Aimee Carter

Goodreads Summary:
YOU CAN BE A VII. IF YOU GIVE UP EVERYTHING

For Kitty Doe, it seems like an easy choice. She can either spend her life as a III in misery, looked down upon by the higher ranks and forced to leave the people she loves, or she can become a VII and join the most powerful family in the country.

If she says yes, Kitty will be Masked—surgically transformed into Lila Hart, the Prime Minister's niece, who died under mysterious circumstances. As a member of the Hart family, she will be famous. She will be adored. And for the first time, she will matter.

There's only one catch. She must also stop the rebellion that Lila secretly fostered, the same one that got her killed …and one Kitty believes in. Faced with threats, conspiracies and a life that's not her own, she must decide which path to choose—and learn how to become more than a pawn in a twisted game she's only beginning to understand.

Previously titled Masked.

My Review:
I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. I am so glad I was approved for this one. It was a totally unique concept and I really enjoyed it. There are so many dystopian books out there right now. Pawn left me craving more. I finished it in two days. Kitty does not live a great life. She is an extra is is not living the life of luxury. She is in a group home with her long time boyfriend Benjy. The citizens are broken up by numbers, one through seven. Depending on how high you score on "the test". Unfortunately Kitty does scores at III and is destined to be a sewer worker. So it is obvious when a situation is presented to her, a chance for a privileged life, she has to take it. Kitty quickly learns that she may have bit off more then she can chew. Things are not as they seem and the government is full of liars. Kitty learns the secrets of the ruling family. What happens in "Elsewhere" is truly horrific. Will Kitty make it out alive? Will she ever be the same again after what she's learned?

Kitty is one of the best female characters I have read about. She does everything she can to keep the people she loves safe. Even if this means becoming something that she is not and doing things she would never do. Being a seven comes with a price. No one can be trusted and her loved ones don't even know who she is. She is strong, even when she doesn't have anyone around her.

Benjy is an amazing boyfriend. I mean these two had been together for a long time and they seemed more like a married couple then boyfriend and girlfriend. He put a lot on the line for her as well. They were both at risk and were willing to help each other. He ends up with a pretty good score on the test and I think that will make all the difference in the later books. Knox isn't really a love interest but, he seems like a very sneaky guy. He knows all the ins and outs. He knows an awful lot about everything. I think he uses this to his advantage a lot.

This was the fist book by this author that I have read. I can truly say that  I really enjoyed it. It was unique and a big page turner. The events at the end of the book left me in a whirlwind so I am really looking forward to the next book!
