Goodreads Summary:
The last humans fled a dying Earth 300 years ago, but there was something they couldn’t leave behind: The Legacy Code.
Every colonist in the fleet carries mangled genes that damage the unborn, and half of all pregnancies must be terminated.
The day Era Corinth is supposed to find out if her baby has the Defect, her ship suffers a hull breach. And it may not have been an accident.
As the investigation unfolds, Era begins to question everything she’s been taught about the fleet, their search for a new Earth, and the Defect. But the answers she seeks were never meant to be found...
My Review:
Legacy Code gets right into in from the first page. I was sucked into Era's world and couldn't put the book down. It takes some time to learn the politics and ways of life in space while reading. I loved every minutes of the tech talk. Era is 17 and is married to Dritan. They live on space ships now since humans fled Earth 300 years ago. Things are going pretty well for Era. She likes her job and Dritan can't be sent down to the planet they are currently attempting to colonize (unsuccessfully) due to the ship they are on. Era is pregnant and has to go be tested to see if her child carries The Defect. This is when things get messy. There is a breach in the ship during her appointment and she is worried about Dritan. He ends up at home when she finally gets back. Things are not all ok though. Later the President's daughter is grabbed at an event on the ship and Dritan's crew members are involved in a plot. What really makes a statement is when the abductor says "The Defect is a lie". This causes Era to second guess everything. Are they all being lied to? Are babies being terminated that could be saved?
After the craziness with the President and her daughter, Era and Dritan get bad news. Dritan is being sent down to the planet...where a lot of people don't come back. Era is convinced this is a punishment for what happened even though he had no part in it. Era is crushed. She doesn't know what she will do if he never comes back. She tries to go about her life but, she can't get it out of her head..."The Defect is a Lie." She works in the department that keeps all the knowledge from Earth stored so they can start a new planet. She is willing to commit treason and risk her life to get the information about The Defect. Will she get caught? What if Dritan dies? What will she do if her baby has The Defect? Can she save it? Read to find out these juicy answers and trust me it is sooo worth it!!
This book was such a roller coaster. Dritan and Era's relationship was so sweet. They were living during a hard time. Babies being terminated, the ships are falling apart, and the planet isn't livable. So many people have died. What if it can change? Lives will be lost in this fight for the truth. No one is safe. What lengths will the government officials go to keep their secrets?
This book made me so angry! Especially the ending. But in a good way! That's important. The author took a chance with the ending. I so hope that my some miracle the end can change and people can be saved but, that may be a long shot. I will anxiously anticipate the next book especially with how this one ended and because of who the next one is about! OMG! I need it!
5 stars, for real?? I saw this book on Goodreads but was suspicious because, let's face it, the cover is too perfect and sometimes it just doesn't match the content. Although, your review is great so I definitely changed my mind! :D

Yup, I read it in about 24 hours. It's a quick read. If a book can keep me that interested it gets a high score. And like I said I like scifi so I was sucked into the world building pretty quick. It has some pretty heavy subject matter too. The author took risks so bonus for that too. Therefore 5 stars 😊 Thanks for stopping by!
