“There is a vulnerability there, hovering just below the surface. And I want to pick at it until I expose it. Then I want to kiss it."
Two years ago, Emily Burnham, had an epiphany about the shallowness of her life. And she made it her mission to become a different person…a better woman. Out from under the controlling thumb of her mother, Emily is tasting the real world for the first time. And she likes it.
Nixon Caldwell has served his time in the Marine Corps, surviving two brutal tours in Afghanistan. He is back home, surrounded by what he likes best…isolation. It's certainly the best way to avoid confrontation of the consuming guilt that is weighing him down.
When an accident brings Emily and Nix together, he soon learns he is not the master of his own fate. Struggling with his own pain, Nix tries to guard himself against Emily’s charms. He wants her in his bed, but he doesn't want her in his heart.
Having grabbed life by the horns, Emily wants it all. But is she willing to accept just the small part of himself that Nix is offering? Can she reach the part of his soul that he has deemed to be Off Limits?
My Review:
Off Limits follows Ryan's sister Emily and takes place a few years after Off Sides. I didn't really like Emily much in the first book so I was worried about her being the main character in the second book. After starting Off Limits I quickly came around to love Emily! She has made a complete 180 in her personality and it's definitely for the better.
She is no longer the entitles snotty rich kid. She is going to college at Columbia in New York and loves being away from her parents. She is finally living life for herself and not just doing what her mother wants. The one faithful night she runs over a gorgeous man on his motorcycle! This man's name is Nix. He is a Marine and has served in Afghanistan. He has been working hard to overcome his issues since returning. Emily ends up having to work off her debt to him to pay for his motorcycle because her mother cuts her off. This leads to an interesting "relationship" if you can call it that. Will Emily be able to break through this mans hardened exterior? Or will casual no-strings attached sex be enough?
Nix is a very multidimensional character. Every time I thought I had him figured out things would change. He seems like a really hard person to get to know since he pushes everyone away. He has a reason for why he is the way he is but, I'm not saying what it is! Sorry, you have to read! Anyway, it is a legit reason that he is working on overcoming. It causes him to be dangerous at times. There are a few heated situations. Some that include Emily's butt of an ex Todd. We also learn a little more about him. Nix's tattoo's were very enticing! You will understand when you read it. He had the ability to make me really like him and want to punch him in the face at the same time. A very difficult challenge for Emily to peal back his layers. There is some serious sexual tension between these two. It is almost palpable and I loved it!!
I really enjoyed Emily and Nix's story. It was hard to put down. I had to keep reading it!! I read it in two days and loved the ending. We still got to see bits and pieces of Ryan and Danny which was great! I really hope their is another book about these two. I think there's a lot left in their story.
The tattoo thing is interesting. And intriguing cover!
