Grace just moved to San Francisco and is excited to start over at a new school. The change is full of fresh possibilities, but it’s also a tiny bit scary. It gets scarier when a minotaur walks in the door. And even more shocking when a girl who looks just like her shows up to fight the monster.
Gretchen is tired of monsters pulling her out into the wee hours, especially on a school night, but what can she do? Sending the minotaur back to his bleak home is just another notch on her combat belt. She never expected to run into this girl who could be her double, though.
Greer has her life pretty well put together, thank you very much. But that all tilts sideways when two girls who look eerily like her appear on her doorstep and claim they're triplets, supernatural descendants of some hideous creature from Greek myth, destined to spend their lives hunting monsters.
These three teenage descendants of Medusa, the once-beautiful gorgon maligned by myth, must reunite and embrace their fates in this unique paranormal world where monsters lurk in plain sight.
My Review:
I feel like I need to start this review off by saying I LOVE mythology. Ever since my first class in high school that involved mythology I have been enamored by it. I was probably the only one who really liked reading the Iliad for school. I love the books about the Gods. I have read quite a few actually. So when it came to a book about the decedents of Medusa. I was like YES!! I thought the story was very creative. I have never read one about Medusa's decedents.
The book was told from the point of view of each of the girls. I thought this was awesome because I felt like I got to know each of them. I really liked Grace. She seemed down to earth and was very nice. Just a regular girl with a regular family. I felt bad for Gretchen. She was alone and hunting monsters in her spare time. I was happy when these two found each other. Greer on the other hand rubbed me the wrong way. Her attitude needs a serious adjustment and I hope Grace and Gretchen can help with that. The monsters were creative as well. I never really considered all the possibilities! I felt like Sweet Venom was used to set up the next book and introduce us to the characters with just enough action to keep me on edge. Monsters are starting to appear a lot more often. There is a problem with the seal and the girls are right in the middle of it. When Gretchen's mentor goes missing things get dicey There are a lot of questions to be answered. Why are there more monsters? What kind of abilities do the girls have? Who's trying to kill them?
There are a few young men in Sweet Venom. I kind of feel like there is more then meets the eye when it comes to them. Especially Milo, Thane, and Nick. Ugh! But, I have no idea what it is!! There's something going on with them and I know it!! I hope that in the girls future they will get to have fun with these guys. Should be interesting.
Tera Lyn Childs has built an amazing world for her readers. Full of mythological creatures and action. If you are a fan of mythology this one is a must read. There is myth, action, and a little romance. It was a book designed for me! As soon as I am done with this post I will be buying Sweet Shadows!
