Goodreads Summary:
What Sofia has with Derek feels like a sandcastle; temporary and something that the waves of life and time will soon ruin...
Since the return of Gregor Novak, the island has turned several shades darker. His hatred toward Sofia and thirst for fresh blood lead to a brutal war igniting between father and son.
Meanwhile, the hunters are gaining formidable strength and resources by the day; they know that the safety of The Shade hangs entirely on its ability to remain hidden from them.
And a sinister secret lies in wait for Sofia within the bowels of an Egyptian desert... a secret that threatens to crush her sandcastle much sooner than she could have expected.
My Review:
A lot was revealed in A Castle of Sand. We find out who Sofia's parents are. It is a huge shocker! I did not see that coming at all. Poor Sofia is caught in a whirlwind of a situation. She is at the center of an epic battle between vampire covens and the hunters. Ever since Gregor Novak returned to The Shade Sofia is in more danger then before. Gregor is not fond of her to say the least. Derek is also in trouble. His Father is some what of a tyrant and is pretty much a monster. The humans are definitely at the mercy of Gregor. This leads to one thing and one thing only. War. An epic battle will take place and not everyone will make it out alive. Like the prophecy says Blood will be Shed.
Derek and Sofia are truly tested here. When the extent of what Sofia's mother has done truly comes out they are both at risk. Sofia is very sure at this point that Derek is who she wants but, after being kidnapped, basically, how will she ever get back to him? Would he risk his own life to rescue her? They are obviously meant for each other. I don't doubt for a second that Sofia would chose to become a vampire if it means never having to leave Derek. In the same sense he would turn her if she asked him to.
I have found that I really miss Vivienne and I am not convinced that we have seen the last of her. I have high hopes that she will pop back up eventually. This story is told from quite a few point of views so we really get an in depth look at what is going on in everyone's minds. I really liked that aspect.
Needless to say I have purchased the next book and am addicted. At least this is a long series so hopefully I will get my fill!
