Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Title:Thief Great Hunt
Author: Wendy Higgins
Series Number: 1
Release Date: March 8, 2016

Goodreads Summary:
Kill the beast. Win the girl.

A strange beast stirs fear in the kingdom of Lochlanach, terrorizing towns with its brutality and hunger. In an act of desperation, a proclamation is sent to all of Eurona—kill the creature and win the ultimate prize: the daughter of King Lochson’s hand in marriage.

Princess Aerity understands her duty to the kingdom though it pains her to imagine marrying a stranger. It would be foolish to set her sights on any particular man in the great hunt, but when a brooding local hunter, Paxton Seabolt, catches her attention, there’s no denying the unspoken lure between them…or his mysterious resentment.

Paxton is not keen on marriage. Nor does he care much for spoiled royals and their arcane laws. He’s determined to keep his focus on the task at hand—ridding the kingdom of the beast and protecting his family—yet Princess Aerity continues to challenge his notions with her unpredictability and charm. But as past secrets collide with present desires, dire choices threaten everything Paxton holds dear.

Inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ tale, “The Singing Bone,” New York Times bestselling author Wendy Higgins delivers a dark fantasy filled with rugged hunters, romantic tension, outlawed magic, and a princess willing to risk all to save her people.

My Thoughts:
I am super excited for this book! I can't wait for it to come out next year. The cover is also very pretty :)

Title:Thief of Lies
Author: Brenda Drake
Series Number: 1
Release Date: January 5, 2016

Goodreads Summary:

Jumping into some of the world's most beautiful libraries would be a dream come true for Gia, if she weren’t busy resisting her heart or dodging an exiled wizard seeking revenge on both the Mystik and human worlds. Add a French flirt obsessed with Arik and a fling with a young wizard, and Gia must choose between her heart and her head, between Arik's world and her own, before both are destroyed.

My Thoughts:

Title: Illuminae
Author: Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Series Number: 1
Release Date: October 20, 2015

Goodreads Summary:
This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

Goodreads Summary:
Enter a hidden world of magic, mystery, danger and romance in this YA fantasy from Amazon bestselling author, Rachel Morgan...

Protecting humans from dangerous magical creatures is all in a day’s work for a faerie training to be a guardian. Seventeen-year-old Violet Fairdale knows this better than anyone—she’s about to become the best guardian the Guild has seen in years. That is, until a cute human boy who can somehow see through her faerie glamor follows her into the Fae realm. Now she’s broken Guild Law, a crime that could lead to her expulsion.

The last thing Vi wants to do is spend any more time with the boy who got her into this mess, but the Guild requires that she return Nate to his home and make him forget everything he’s discovered of the Fae realm. Easy, right? Not when you factor in evil faeries, long-lost family members, and inconvenient feelings of the romantic kind. Vi is about to find herself tangled up in a dangerous plot—and it’ll take all her training to get out alive.

Goodreads Summary:
Guardian trainee Violet Fairdale is just weeks away from one of the most important occasions of her life: graduation. After messing up big time by bringing a human into the fae realm, Vi needs to step up her game and forget about Nate if she hopes to graduate as the top guardian of her year.

Everything would be fine if she wasn’t forced to partner with Ryn, her ex-friend, ex-enemy, current ‘sort of friend’. They might be trying to patch up their relationship, but does she really want to spend a week undercover with him for their final assignment? On top of that, the possibly insane Unseelie Prince is still on the loose, free to ‘collect’ as many specially talented faeries as he can find—and Vi is still at the top of his list. Add in faerie queens, enchanted storms, complicated not-just-friends feelings, and a murder within the Guild itself, and graduation is about to become the least of Vi’s problems.

Goodreads Summary:
Driven by action, suspense, and a strong heroine, this deliciously detailed, bestselling YA fantasy will keep you turning the pages right up until the epic conclusion...

Violet Fairdale is in big trouble. Her home is gone, her beloved forest lies in ruins, the guy she gave her heart to has deserted her—and she doesn’t remember any of it. The powerful Lord Draven is taking over, brainwashing guardians into fighting for him. No one is safe from the evil spreading throughout the fae world.

As alliances are forged between the remaining free fae, Vi struggles to reclaim her identity and figure out where she belongs in this new world. When someone from her past shows up, life gets even more complicated. He brings with him a long-forgotten weapon and an ancient prophecy that places Vi at the center of the fight against Draven. With the future of the fae world at stake, can Vi carry out the prophecy’s instructions before it’s too late?

Goodreads Summary:
One drop of blood is all it takes to throw Jessica Mitchell's mundane life into chaos.

She doesn't think much about the scratch on her arm during her day working as an assistant cook at a New York pub. That changes when she's overtaken by nausea and chills while on the way home and collapses in Central Park. She awakens hours later, the blue eyes of a handsome stranger gazing down at her, and reluctantly accepts his help. But when this man tells her the world isn't what she thinks it is, she can't believe he's anything but insane.

Craddock Daniels never planned on being a hero, but then he comes across a beautiful redhead, unconscious in the park. It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What Are you Reading is a meme hosted by Book Journey. It is where we can share which books we are reading for the week! I am a planner so I do this already but, this is a fun way to share it with you guys!

This book is kind of a special interest of mine. Why you ask? Well one of my high school friends wrote it!! I know right! So I am excited to read something written by someone I know personally. It is the first one she has had published so if the summary interests you feel free to show her some love!

Amazon Summary:

Kylah was born and raised in a small northern town. She lived an ordinary life in the mortal world. Until the day she’s turned into a Vampire.

Her eyes are suddenly opened to a world she never knew existed, and she finds herself incredibly alone in a Supernatural existence. She is the first Vampire since the dawn of Creation to hold the powers given to the Originals, and every spiritual entity has taken notice.

Demons have been summoned from the Pits of Hell to hunt her down, convert her to their side, or snuff her out like a candle. Darkness appeals to her need for revenge on those who have wronged her, and those she loves. It entices her with promises of power and respect.

But beings of the Light have also come for her. Guardians of the Dead, servants of the Creator, rush to her aid to appeal to her humanity and save her soul from damnation, and rescue the world from a dark, avenging angel.

When the Demonic attacks become life threatening, the Guardians move her across the country to New Orleans to give her a chance to connect with Vampires that will be able to help her grow and harness her powers, but things quickly spiral out of control when she is introduced to an Original Vampire that is power-hungry and blood-thirsty.

The fight for her soul explodes into a war of epic proportions, and the lives of everyone she ever cared about are now at stake.

Ok, this book is going to be a movie and therefore I must read the book before I see the movie. I try to always do this when books become movies.

 Goodreads Summary:

A Castle of Sand by Bella Forrest

Goodreads Summary:
What Sofia has with Derek feels like a sandcastle; temporary and something that the waves of life and time will soon ruin...

Since the return of Gregor Novak, the island has turned several shades darker. His hatred toward Sofia and thirst for fresh blood lead to a brutal war igniting between father and son.

Meanwhile, the hunters are gaining formidable strength and resources by the day; they know that the safety of The Shade hangs entirely on its ability to remain hidden from them.

And a sinister secret lies in wait for Sofia within the bowels of an Egyptian desert... a secret that threatens to crush her sandcastle much sooner than she could have expected.

My Review:
A lot was revealed in A Castle of Sand. We find out who Sofia's parents are. It is a huge shocker! I did not see that coming at all. Poor Sofia is caught in a whirlwind of a situation. She is at the center of an epic battle between vampire covens and the hunters. Ever since Gregor Novak returned to The Shade Sofia is in more danger then before. Gregor is not fond of her to say the least. Derek is also in trouble. His Father is some what of a tyrant and is pretty much a monster. The humans are definitely at the mercy of Gregor. This leads to one thing and one thing only. War. An epic battle will take place and not everyone will make it out alive. Like the prophecy says Blood will be Shed

Derek and Sofia are truly tested here. When the extent of what Sofia's mother has done truly comes out they are both at risk. Sofia is very sure at this point that Derek is who she wants but, after being kidnapped, basically, how will she ever get back to him? Would he risk his own life to rescue her? They are obviously meant for each other. I don't doubt for a second that Sofia would chose to become a vampire if it means never having to leave Derek. In the same sense he would turn her if she asked him to.

I have found that I really miss Vivienne and I am not convinced that we have seen the last of her. I have high hopes that she will pop back up eventually. This story is told from quite a few point of views so we really get an in depth look at what is going on in everyone's minds. I really liked that aspect.

Needless to say I have purchased the next book and am addicted. At least this is a long series so hopefully I will get my fill!

ARC Review of Life Before Damaged Vol. 8 by H.M. Ward

Goodreads Summary:
Money. Power. Sex.

People don't change. They can't. It's a simple thing to understand and yet, everything I'm seeing in the billionaire Pete Ferro makes me think that I'm wrong. Perhaps this alpha male is capable of love after all? That should be a good thing since I'm engaged to him and a wedding is swiftly approaching, but I wanted a white knight type of love story. Instead I got the dark romance that I can't explain.

After all the fights are washed away, there's another man beneath the surface of that sexy exterior searching for a second chance at life. There's more to him than a sexy grin and a beautiful body, but he hides those pieces of his soul away from everyone--except me.

I'm attracted to that man--the hot player who's really a poet, the heartbreaker of a manwhore with the deep blue eyes and crooked smile. I can't fall in love with him because it would break my heart and there's so little left.

My Review:
Gina has finally come into her own. She has decided to live her life to the fullest. Gina's story has surprised me. I have loved Peter in the other books but, in this one he drives me crazy. Gina deserves better. He is so hot and cold all the time. I am getting emotional whip lash. I can't imagine how Gina feels. Especially with the deadline to become a Ferro is looming over her. I don't blame her. I think I would have made the same decision she did. I find myself hoping for a different outcome for Gina. even though we kind of know how this story ends. I have hope!

Gina and Peter still have encounters of the romantic variety. Which are also hot and cold. In this volume I found them to be sweet. I would love to see them have way more intimate time but, I understand times are a little tense and Gina has a lot on her mind. Gina's ex-bf Anthony, stirs things up a bit too. His drunken antics make Peter pretty mad. Which then makes him go all man-ape on Anthony. I did kind of enjoy that though.

Once again I am left emotionally drained after this volume. It keeps getting better and better. I can't wait for the next volume!

A Shade of Blood by Bella Forrest

Goodreads Summary:
In A Shade Of Blood, Bella Forrest transports you deeper into a unique, enthralling and beautifully sensitive story. Prepare to be lost in its pages…

When Sofia Claremont was kidnapped to a sunless island, uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet, she believed she’d forever be a captive of its dark ruler, Derek Novak.

Now, after months of surviving an endless night, the morning sun may soon rise again for Sofia. Something has possessed Derek’s heart and he offers her a gift no human slave has ever been given in the history of his cursed island: escape.

High school, prom and a chance to move on with her life now await her.

But will she be able to forget the horrors that steal her sleep away at night? … and the feelings that haunt her for that tormented prince of darkness?

My Review:
Ok I am devouring this series. I am already halfway through book 3 as I am doing this review. After Sofia leaves with Ben to go back to their lives. You would think that this is a dream come true, right?! Well not so much. Turns out that trying to be normal after going through everything they did is almost impossible. Ben and Sofia both have nightmares from their time at The Shade. They are trying to fit in but, football and prom are just not doing it. Neither is their relationship. Things have changed between these two. Ben finally realizes he loves Sofia and Sofia realizes how deep her feelings are for Derek. What is a girl to do? Let's not forget Derek who is on the war path back at  The Shade after losing Sofia. Things were suppose to be easy now. Sofia wasn't suppose to miss The Shade. What will she do now? Can she go on living a normal life?

I didn't really get into Ben and Sofia's relationship. It seemed very forced. Like they were back to real life and should just start dating to see what happens. Ben moved to fast. He jumped in head first. While Sofia took the safer approach. Her heart was not in it and it showed. After Ben decides to go to join the Hunters, Sofia draws the line. She does not share the intense hatred

I felt bad for Derek during this book. He was alone and was honestly trying to make things better but, failed. He was heartbroken and a heartbroken man will do terrible things. I was worried he would do something he would regret later and in a sense he did. Sofia yearns to find a way back to The Shade. When low and behold Vivienne shows up. Things do not really go according to plan though.

I am really enjoying this series thus far. It is a fast read and I am reading almost 3 a week haha. I would have liked the romance in this one to be a little more detail oriented. The "tumble in the sheets" didn't really do it for me but, it is YA so I expected that. I am excited to continue on!

ARC Review of Deceptions by Kelley Armstrong

Goodreads Summary:
Olivia Taylor Jones's life has exploded. She's discovered she is not only adopted, but her real parents are convicted serial killers. Fleeing the media frenzy, she took refuge in the oddly secluded town of Cainsville. She has since solved the town's mysteries and finds herself not only the target of its secretive elders but also her stalker ex-fiancé.

Visions continue to haunt her: particularly a little blond girl in a green sundress who insists she has an important message for Olivia, one that may help her balance the light and darkness within herself. Death stalks both Olivia and the two men most important to her, as she desperately searches to understand whether ancient scripts are dictating the triangle that connects them. Will darkness prevail, or does Olivia have the power to prevent a tragic fate?

(Apparently the first time I posted this review it didn't go live so lets try again.)
My Review:
I am in love with this series, seriously. First of all I have to say, we finally get the whole vision!! I mean the bits and pieces thing was killing me. I needed to know what it all meant! I mean that little girl is super cryptic and mostly I was just left as confused as Olivia. The pieces slowly started to fall together and make sense. And let me tell you , it is crazy! I didn't see that coming at all. I mean two tribes of Fae hating each other is one of my favorite story lines. The whole thing with the visions was genius, I just wish they happened faster! I found that a lot of Deceptions felt like a filler with some crazy twists. Olivia finally learns the truth about her parents and the murders but, not without bumps along the way. People will die and finally seeing the whole vision does not make things easier. In fact it makes Olivia's life more complicated. At least it all makes more sense now. Who will Olivia choose? Are her choices really her choices or are they more set in stone then she thinks?

I really like Ricky. He is a fun and dangerous guy. Let's face it, him and Olivia make a pretty good couple. They get along and have amazing sex. Their relationship continues to grow in Deceptions. They are definitely together more. The feelings are strong. So strong that Olivia fills him in on the whole Fae thing and her visions. It takes a lot of trust for her to do that. She couldn't tell just anyone.

What was my favorite part you ask? That would be how much Ricky and Olivia's relationship bothers Gabriel!! Yes, I am still on Gabriel's team. Even though he is very emotionally stunted.  Even through this one I was hoping they would find their way to each other. I think they are close but, Ricky is still winning. Gabriel needs to open up and confess his feelings. He drove me crazy!! I have feelings for her but, I won't show them, got really old. He came so close but, something always stopped him. I see things changing between them and I am so excited about it! I have no idea if the visions will help them now that they know what it all means. It puts a lot of weight on Olivia to make her choice. In the end I don't know who it will be and I love that.

As much as I hate love triangles this one isn't to bad. I have read worse. I really enjoy Armstrong's writing and this series requires more patience then others by her to get the whole story. Three books later and I feel we are a lot closer. I know there are more books planned for the series and I can't wait to see how it plays out!

A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest

Goodreads Summary:
On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.

A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.

She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

My Review:
I finally read this one. I have seen it everywhere and it's finally time I read it. I for one an a huge vampire fan. So I was excited to see that this wasn't your average, vampires are nice to humans and don't like killing them. The vampires in this book have human slaves. So imagine Sofia's surprise to wake up in The Shade as a slave to one of the most powerful vampires ever, Derek. Derek however is also not your stereotypical vampire. He is trying to fight is nature as a killer. He was put under a witches spell to sleep and has finally woke up after 400 years. Things have changed and not for the better. The vampires of The Shade have allowed themselves to become weak and vulnerable. For Sofia she is constantly living in fear and wondering when she will be killed. How will she survive in this new world?

We get both Derek and Sofia's POV during this book. I loved that. We got to see what was going on in Sofia's mind after being ripped away from her family and the boy she loved. Being in this new place was not easy for her. Especially when she develops feelings for Derek. She fights them because he is dangerous and his family is too. She wants to fight it but, it is very hard. Derek is different. We get that from his portions of the book as well as through Sofia's eyes. He wants to be better. Of course we all slip up from time to time, it is only natural. These two have some serious angst between them.

Derek's family is not so easy to get along with though. His brother and sister are not the friendliest towards humans. They believe in the old ways where humans are slaves and alive to please them. Unfortunately when Derek shows such interest in Sofia it puts her in a dangerous position. She has to look out whenever shes around other vampires. I also really enjoyed the witch! I think there are some fun things ahead with her story line!

I really enjoyed this book. So much so that I purchased the second one immediately and am almost done with it. I plan to have that review up shortly as well!

Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. It is hosted by Tynga's Reviews. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!
I am sorry, I have been seriously slacking lately. I started a new job and the overtime is killing me. I haven't had time for much of anything else. By the time the weekend comes I could pretty much sleep it away. I am hoping this gets better as our staff numbers increase! Until then I am doing what I can to keep up with my posts.

Goodreads Summary:
Princess Margrethe has been hidden away while her kingdom is at war. One gloomy, windswept morning, as she stands in a convent garden overlooking the icy sea, she witnesses a miracle: a glittering mermaid emerging from the waves, a nearly drowned man in her arms. By the time Margrethe reaches the shore, the mermaid has disappeared into the sea. As Margrethe nurses the handsome stranger back to health, she learns that not only is he a prince, he is also the son of her father's greatest rival. Sure that the mermaid brought this man to her for a reason, Margrethe devises a plan to bring peace to her kingdom.

Meanwhile, the mermaid Princess Lenia longs to return to the human man she carried to safety. She is willing to trade her home, her voice, and even her health for legs and the chance to win his heart...

A surprising take on the classic tale, Mermaid is the story of two women with everything to lose. It will make you think twice about the fairy tale you heard as a child, keeping you in suspense until the very last page.

BLOG TOUR!! Overtime by Toni Aleo!!

Overtime by Toni Aleo
Series: Assassins Series #7
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Down and out with an injury keeping him away from the game, Assassins’ defenseman Jordie Thomas lives for the blades of his skates on the ice and the feeling of oblivion off it. With no choice but to heal, he’s forced away from the sport that runs through his veins. With everything at stake and darkness setting in, he quickly finds himself spiraling even further out of control. As his life begins to come crashing down around him and his contract with the Nashville Assassins on the line, he’s given an ultimatum. Ready or not, Jordie is forced to face his past, the fears that consume him, and the one woman he let walk away.

Kacey King had her professional dreams come true, yet her heart was battered and broken. With an Olympic gold medal around her neck, she’s ready to look forward to the future but without the one man she wanted in it. She’s missing the key pieces of her heart she left months ago with the only person who was capable of destroying it, causing her to falter in all her plans to move on.
>In the game of life, there are winners and losers, and neither Jordie nor Kacey want to be on the losing bench. If only Jordie could convince Kacey he’s a changed man and that he wants her right by his side as his MVP for the biggest and best parts of a life they build together. With emotions running high and the game on the line, can two proud people find happiness with each other, or will their hearts and souls be left in the cold? Will they see that sometimes having someone by your side who knows the good, bad, and broken is better than going it alone and losing everything through the back of the net? They are out of time on the game clock and fighting for the win of their lives.

But overtime was made for an Assassin like Jordie.

My Review:
I have been waiting for Jordie's story since "Wanting to Forget." I knew Jordie's story would be different from the others. He is struggling with his life choices. You got a glimpse of his issues in "Wanting to Forget" but, it is far deeper then I could have ever imagined. His childhood was pretty intense. He was the victim of some pretty terrible things. They were the foundation of his issues as an adult. He clearly loved Kacey but, couldn't get passed his addiction and his fear of breaking her heart. Will Jordie get passed his demons or will they destroy him?

I loved Kacey. She is a strong female character who speaks her mind and curses like a sailor and I love it! She fits in so great with the other female characters from Aleo's books. She has not had it easy either. After Jordie left her she lost it. She went through some really bad things without Jordie. She truly suffered and she suffered alone. She isn't sure if she can ever forgive Jordie for what he did and how he made her feel. I don't blame her either. Her family is very supportive. She moves into her brother Karson's house with his wife Lacey and new baby! I love them too by the way. Her family is always behind her, which she will need if she is going to give Jordie a second chance. Will Jordie win her back?

These two have some seriously hot moments. I mean...holy crap. I can see why she likes the very manly version of Jordie. He is a dirty talker and I love it! He knows what Kacey likes and he does those things oh so well! They are perfect for each other and they both know it. I was waiting for them to give in to their needs. Kacey kept pushing him away. She didn't know how much he needed her. Although, Jordie didn't either. After he sobered up, he realized how much she completed him and it became his mission to get her back. I love when a man woo's his lady.

We get to see all of our favorite Assassin's too. You absolutely can't forget about them. My favorite team of hot hockey players! Keep them coming Toni Aleo because I love them all! Overtime is a story of loss, addiction, and how someone can overcome the biggest obstacles in their lives. It is a story of how love and family can triumph over your darkest times. You will need to pick this one up everyone!
