Summary:

Haley Brandt isn’t the one-night-stand type, but too much tequila and a man with two sinfully black eyes left her breathless and willing to break her own rules. Her only solace was the fact that she’d never see him again.

Until the next morning when she finds out he’s her ride out of town and back to the ranch where she grew up.

Nixon Holt works with Haley’s father, so Haley makes her position clear—she doesn’t get involved with ranch employees. Ever. At nineteen, she’d learned her lesson the hard way, and it became her one unbreakable rule.

But Nixon makes hisposition clear, too: He’s going to wear down Haley’s defenses and he won’t stop until she breaks all her rules for him. He’s well on his way when Haley finds out the one thing that could make her hate him. Nixon is left with two choices: walk away or break all his rules for her.

Goodreads Summary:
All hail the Fire Queen.

Against all odds, Ruby has defeated the villainous Frost King and melted his throne of ice. But the bloodthirsty Minax that was trapped inside is now haunting her kingdom and everyone she loves. The answers to its demise may lie to the south in Sudesia, the land of the Firebloods, and a country that holds the secrets to Ruby’s powers and past…

Despite warnings from her beloved Arcus, Ruby accompanies a roguish Fireblood named Kai to Sudesia, where she must master her control of fire in a series of trials to gain the trust of the suspicious Fire Queen. Only then can she hope to access the knowledge that could defeat the rampaging Minax—which grows closer every moment. But as sparks fly in her moments alone with Kai, Ruby no longer knows whom to trust. The fates of two kingdoms are now in her hands.

My Review:
Fireblood picks up right after the first book. The Evil Frost King has been defeated and the ice throne melted. It did not come without consequences however. The Minax is now free, raking havoc across the kingdom. Ruby has not had it easy since the King died. She is still not accepted by the Frostbloods, even though Arcus cares for her deeply and has made that known. Then an attempt on her life is made during a gala and Arcus is gravely injured. Ruby fared much better against the rogue Frost bloods because of another Fireblood named Kai. Things are getting out of hand and the only way Ruby sees it getting better is if she goes with Kai to the land of Firebloods to find a way to kill a Minax. Will Ruby find the answers she is so desperate to find? Will returning to her people create even more turmoil for her?

Arcus does not want Ruby to leave. He is injured and can't accompany her and really doesn't want her to go. She feels she is a burden on him and hindering his ability to rule because everyone hates her. I feel like she feels there is no other way out. They don't leave on great terms. Kai is dangerous to their relationship. Not only is he a Fireblood but, he is also a handsome flirt. He is drawn to Ruby, although I think he'd be drawn to any woman. Their relationship grows as well. The Queen has ulterior motives with Ruby and thinks Kai would be a good match for her. I personally love Arcus and to see Ruby pulling away from him was very hard for me.

So much happens in this books. There are quite a few revelations that will change the course of everything in both kingdoms. A evil greater then any single frostblood or fireblood has been unleashed. The only way to defeat it will require two kingdoms to work together. This is no easy task. It will come down to whether or not Arcus can get everyone on the same page or else everyone will die. Can they do it?

I am almost done with Nightblood now and I am glad that these books were all out when I found this series. I can't wait to see how this one ends! So good!

Last week flew by. I feel like it just came and went out of nowhere. Nothing to crazy to report. Halloween is this week and I have been trying to watch a scary show just due to the season. Of course I went with The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix which was a bad choice. I do not like scary shows...at all but, everyone has been talking about this show being so good that I had to give it a go. Yea...I have watched 2 episodes over the whole week. It is just to much for me. I don't think I will be able to finish it!

I don't have kids so I decided to work a late shift that day so the people with kids didn't have to. Any big plans for you guys? Great costume ideas?

Ruby's world has changed more than she ever could have imagined. She's in love with a powerful Frost King. She's the heir to the Fire Throne. And she may be a Nightblood--the spawn of a vengeful deity hellbent on releasing his wraithlike Minax from their prison. Once freed, these beasts will roam the earth, devouring every last person until he or she is nothing but an empty husk. But Ruby is able to control the Minax to a degree, and now she, her beloved Arcus, and her friend Kai must find a way to bring Frostbloods and Firebloods--sworn enemies--together to make a stand against a foe more deadly than any they've faced.

In this heart-pounding finale of Elly Blake's gorgeously written and action-packed Frostblood Saga, the fate of Frostbloods, Firebloods, and all of humanity is at stake.
Goodreads Summary:

You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.

The first lesson is to make yourself strong.

After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.

When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.
My Thoughts:
I absolutely loved the first book in this series. It was by far one of my favorites of this year. The review is up and coming on my blog. I was absolutely devastated when I saw this one didn't come out until 2019!! Ugh, I do not like to wait and honestly I finished the first one months ago and it was almost a year wait! I need this book sooner rather then later.
Goodreads Summary:
Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in “The Satan Sacrifice" of Kinnakee, Kansas. She survived—and famously testified that her fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, the Kill Club—a secret secret society obsessed with notorious crimes—locates Libby and pumps her for details. They hope to discover proof that may free Ben. Libby hopes to turn a profit off her tragic history: She’ll reconnect with the players from that night and report her findings to the club—for a fee. As Libby’s search takes her from shabby Missouri strip clubs to abandoned Oklahoma tourist towns, the unimaginable truth emerges, and Libby finds herself right back where she started—on the run from a killer.
My Review:
This is the first book I have read by Gillian Flynn. I can say that I enjoyed it but, didn't love it. It was quite dark in some places, no pun intended. I didn't really like Libby until halfway through the book. She went through something horrible as a kid and it has left her with many emotional scars. She really isn't a functioning adult. She lives off the money from publicity regarding her families murder. She joins the Kill Club at first just to make money, then when things aren't adding up and more questions are raised she is interested. interested in finding out if her brother Ben really did kill her family or if it was someone else.

This book had a lot of characters in it. Like I said I didn't really enjoy Libby until about halfway through the book. The only character I enjoyed for a while was her mother. She was stuck in a hard way and was having a hard time providing for her family. Her drug addict ex-husband was useless. She had 4 kids to take care of and a failing farm. I think we can all relate to her mom in same way or another. When your life is like that it changes the kids. They are different from other kids in just the way they live. It makes them targets at school, in life.

The book jumps between the present and the past. This is necessary to get all the details of the days leading up to the murders, the murders, and after. I can honestly say I did not see the ending coming. I didn't expect the motives behind the murders to be what they were. It was truly heart breaking. Gillian Flynn definitely knows how to write about different levels/kinds of pain.

All in all I was satisfied with the ending of the book however, not sure I would read this one again. It is a movie on Netflix now. The Netflix movie is a bit watered down and less dark then the book. I LOVED Sharp Objects on HBO so I think if I do read more from Gillian Flynn that will be the one I read next.
Goodreads Summary:
Seventeen-year-old Ruby is a Fireblood who has concealed her powers of heat and flame from the cruel Frostblood ruling class her entire life. But when her mother is killed trying to protect her, and rebel Frostbloods demand her help to overthrow their bloodthirsty king, she agrees to come out of hiding, desperate to have her revenge.

Despite her unpredictable abilities, Ruby trains with the rebels and the infuriating - yet irresistible - Arcus, who seems to think of her as nothing more than a weapon. But before they can take action, Ruby is captured and forced to compete in the king’s tournaments that pit Fireblood prisoners against Frostblood champions. Now she has only one chance to destroy the maniacal ruler who has taken everything from her - and from the icy young man she has come to love.

My Review:
Ruby has had to spend her life living in isolation and keeping her gift a secret. This all comes to an abrupt halt the day the frost guards come for her. She has been so careful with her gift, how could they know she is a Fireblood? Her mother is killed during the attempt to take Ruby. Which causes her powers to surge out of control for a brief moment. She is taken to prison where she starts to lose all hope. however she is rescued by a very surprising pair. A couple of Frostbloods break her out. However it is not simply a break out, they require her services. Will Ruby join the rebels hunt to take down the Frost King?

There is a lot that happens in this book. Ruby doesn't have a lot of time to learn about her powers and be able to control them. When she does get to the Frost King, things take a turn for the worst. She is forced to fight in a gladiator type scenario. Is she ready? Can she defeat the King's best fighters or is she destined to die in a pit?

Ruby's story starts out rather traumatic. She has no solace when taken to the rebels base. The Frostbloods there do not like her or are afraid of her. Her mentor does try to make things eaiser for her. Her relationship with Arcus starts out a bit rocky. He has his reasons for being untrustworthy towards Firebloods. He has been assigned to train Ruby to control her powers. Which is no easy task considering she has had no formal training. I love how its fire vs. ice. Arcus is a true Frostblood. He is cold and very much turned off emotionally. We do find out why later but, he is a very interesting guy. They do form a bond and I hope it blossoms into more!

This was a fun quick read. I am excited to see where this story goes. I can't wait to start the next book, which I already purchased!

Theodosia was six when her country was invaded and her mother, the Fire Queen, was murdered before her eyes. On that day, the Kaiser took Theodosia's family, her land, and her name. Theo was crowned Ash Princess--a title of shame to bear in her new life as a prisoner.

For ten years Theo has been a captive in her own palace. She's endured the relentless abuse and ridicule of the Kaiser and his court. She is powerless, surviving in her new world only by burying the girl she was deep inside.

Then, one night, the Kaiser forces her to do the unthinkable. With blood on her hands and all hope of reclaiming her throne lost, she realizes that surviving is no longer enough. But she does have a weapon: her mind is sharper than any sword. And power isn't always won on the battlefield.

For ten years, the Ash Princess has seen her land pillaged and her people enslaved. That all ends here.
Goodreads Summary:
Elloren Gardner and her friends were only seeking to right a few wrongs, but their actions have propelled them straight into the ranks of the realm-wide Resistance against Gardnerian encroachment. As the Resistance struggles against the harsh rulings of High Priest Marcus Vogel and the Mage Council, Elloren begins to realize that none of the people she cares about will be safe if Gardneria seizes control of the Western Realm.

With tensions heating up in Verpacia, more and more Gardnerian soldiers continue to descend upon the university…led by none other than Lukas Grey, now commander of the newly rebuilt Fourth Division base. Though Elloren tries to keep him at arm’s length, Lukas is determined to wandfast to her, convinced that she has inherited her grandmother’s magic—the prophesied power of the Black Witch. As his very nearness seems to awaken a darkness inside her, Elloren finds it more and more difficult to believe that she’s truly powerless, as her uncle always claimed.

Caught between her growing feelings for the rebellious Yvan Guriel and the seductive power offered by Lukas Grey, Elloren must find a way to stay true to what she knows is right and protect everyone she loves…even if that means protecting them from herself.
My Review:
I got through The Iron Flower faster then The Black Whitch, which I didn't think was possible. I was so drawn into this world that I couldn't quit reading after I started. I was revealed when I realized the second book in this series was out. It picks up right where the Black Witch left off. The world is in a very unstable place. No where is safe for Elloren's friends anymore. The world is about to explode into war. Loyalties will be tested, friendships pushed to their limits, and loved ones will die. Which side will Elloren fall on?

Some serious stuff goes down in this book. People are out of control and because of that bad things happen. The scene where one of her friends is brutishly attacked was heart breaking. I actually cried while reading that part. It was so horrible. There were a few deaths that just rip your heart open. The true power of war is portrayed well. It is done in such a way that you truly feel for these characters. It felt so real and created vivid pictures in my mind almost as if I was watching a movie. Such great writing!

I'm not sure Elloren is in a love triangle. I think there is a definite favorite. Her aunt is pushing her to fast with Lukas and she is playing dirty. Lukas is 100% on board with fasting to Elloren. Lukas is a difficult character to read. I am honestly not sure where his loyalties lie. I think he is with the army and the Gardnerian's but, to an extent. I think Elloren is breaking through his tough outer skin. It will be interesting to see where this relationship goes in the books to come.

I still love Yvan! He is perfect for Elloren and she him. However their relationship is forbidden. They do not see a way that either of them can be together that will work. They will always be hunted because of the forbidden nature of their relationship. They do have some cute moments though. I hope that they will find a way.

I think that what this book did was show that no one is immune to war. No one is safe. But also that there are always good and innocence on both sides. Looks can be very deceiving. You need to look at whats beneath and in the hear to truly know someone. There were also a few HUGE revelations at the end that makes waiting unbearable! I am blown away by this series thus far and can not wait for the third book.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">A new Black Witch will rise…her powers vast beyond imagining.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Elloren Gardner is the granddaughter of the last prophesied Black Witch, Carnissa Gardner, who drove back the enemy forces and saved the Gardnerian people during the Realm War. But while she is the absolute spitting image of her famous grandmother, Elloren is utterly devoid of power in a society that prizes magical ability above all else.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">When she is granted the opportunity to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an apothecary, Elloren joins her brothers at the prestigious Verpax University to embrace a destiny of her own, free from the shadow of her grandmother’s legacy. But she soon realizes that the university, which admits all manner of people—including the fire-wielding, winged Icarals, the sworn enemies of all Gardnerians—is a treacherous place for the granddaughter of the Black Witch.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">As evil looms on the horizon and the pressure to live up to her heritage builds, everything Elloren thought she knew will be challenged and torn away. Her best hope of survival may be among the most unlikely band of misfits…if only she can find the courage to trust those she’s been taught to hate and fear.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">My Review:
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Elloren is not a regular Gardnerian. Her grandmother was the last Black Witch. To everyone's disappointment Elloren has no access to any magic. Because of this Elloren is allowed to study at the University to become an apothecary like her mother. Unfortunately for Elloren, she has lived a rather sheltered life with her uncle. Because Elloren is the spitting image of her Grandmother things are far more difficult for Elloren. There are a lot of different cultures at University that Elloren has no experience with. Not only that, but her appearance makes here a target of hate whether she has magic or not. There are a lot of predetermined notions of what the other cultures are like and how they are to be treated. Elloren learns quickly that life here will not be as fun as she thought. Especially since she is the target of Evil. Will Elloren be able to look past everything she was brought up to know as truth?
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Relationships are quite different in this world. The author does a great job at describing all the different religions/cultures and how they view love. Unfortunately for Ellorens people, they are forced to fast to men they may not love and relationships are solely for producing children, not love. Elloren has a very hard time with this as her aunt, a very politically powerful Mage, is pushing her to fast to Lukas Grey. He is a good political match but, could she grow to love him? At this point I am honestly not sure. I see her with someone else but, I do not know if this relationship will be possible as it "crosses lines". Lukas is a very powerful Level Five mage, attractive, and very highly thought of. Elloren has a hard time because she doesn't know him. If she chooses to follow her heart then she will be in serious trouble, disowned even. Choosing her heart may not even be an option.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">This book also had one of the best quotes of all time:
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">"Real education doesn't make your life easy. It complicates things and makes everything messy and disturbing. But the alternative, Elloren Gardner, is to live your lie based on injustice and lies."
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Ohhhh so powerful!
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">There are a number of different characters in this world. They range from elves, Lupines (wolves), Mages, Selkies, and many other races. All with different beliefs. Just like any culture they believe their way is the best way to live. Thus enters the controversy of this book I guess. I was unaware of this when I read this book. To me it is a fictional story that brings in issues of racism and people thinking they are better then others. Elloren gets sucked in a bit to prejudice but I think she is coming around. I still enjoyed this story very much and read the book rather quickly. I have already started reading the next book.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I am really enjoying this story. Things are starting to get out of hand. I have a glimmer of hope that Elloren will find a way to access her magic and do what is right rather then what is currently happening. I think her group could change the world and I have high hopes for them. Time will tell as the story progresses. I highly recommend this book. Don't let the controversy deter you.
My Review:
Above I listed the synopsis of the first book. However this review covers the first six books. I read them so fast and one right after the other that it is all just one big story in my mind now. This series was enthralling. I am so sad that I waited so long to read it. On the other hand it allowed me to read book after book which was very nice. The last book in the series comes out this month so I figured it was time to do the review.

I absolutely loved this series. I ripped through it probably as fast as I read through the Harry Potter books. I was sucked in and couldn't put them down. Celaena is the main character and she has had a horrible and trying life. She is a teenager but, very much an adult. She has been on her own since her parents were killed and forced to be much older then she was. She is an assassin and a good one at that. We meet her when she is basically in prison and "rescued" by Prince Dorian to be the champion in a horrible battle for the King. After that things get crazy! Celaena is definitely more then she appears. Things are about to change drastically for her and not all of them for the better.

The world building is very intricate. We get multiple points of view from a few core characters. How their stories weave together is simply brilliant. I could not put these books down and I bet I read them all within a couple weeks. It is an intricate world full of pain and love. I have never been so interested in all the characters in a story before. Literally, I enjoyed every characters entry. Surprisingly even the witch. I am excited just typing about this right now. Simply put, I love these characters! This story builds and not one part is boring. The magic is awesome, the soldiers are awesome, I really grew to love the witches. I laughed and cried my way through these books.

There are a number of love interests for Celaena, however the one she ends up with is by far my favorite. I really enjoyed the slow burn of these two. They are perfect for each other. Even if it took them a while to realize this. So much happens in this story that it is hard to incorporate love when their is a giant insane war brewing. It was delicately done.

The last book, Kingdom of Ash, releases on October 23rd and I can not wait! There was a book in the series I have not read yet. It deviates from the main characters and includes only Chaol's story, it takes place at the same time as Empire of Storms. I am not sure if I am going to read this one before the last book comes out or not. Have you guys read it? Is it worth reading since it is only Chaol's story? I can not wait to see how this series will end. I am dying to get the last book!!!
Goodreads Summary:
Natasha’s sure that her friends love her. But does that mean they didn’t try to kill her? Natasha is the most popular girl in school. So why was she pulled out of a freezing river after being dead for thirteen minutes? She doesn’t remember how she ended up in the icy water that night, but she does know this—it wasn’t an accident, and she wasn’t suicidal. At first Becca isn’t sure that she even wants to help Natasha. But as she is drawn back into Natasha’s orbit, Becca starts putting the pieces together. As an outsider, Becca belaives she may be the only one who can uncover the truth...which is far more twisted than she ever imagined.

My Review:
This was an intense read. Becca hasn’t been in the in crowd for a while. She is ok with her life now. She has a friend in Hannah and Aiden her boyfriend. When something terrible happens to her old best friend. She is tested. Is her ex friend Tasha worthy of her help and sympathy? After renewing their friendship can they work together to figure out what happened to Tasha that dreadful night she died in the river? One thing is for sure, nothing is as it seems. Manipulation is in full effect and no one should be trusted.

I really enjoyed Becca, for the most part. Her parts of the story were my favorite to read. This book goes back and forth between a few people and sometimes diary entries and policy notes. I think that added a lot of dimension to the story and characters. Becca and Hannah were probably the only two I really liked. Tasha...I didn’t like her. The entire story I didn’t like her. She is a horrible person plain and simple. I can’t say I was surprised her “friends” did what they did. Aiden was an interesting character in the background. Hannah I truly felt for. Poor girl was innocent and caught in the crossfire.

The plot was so fun. I loved the intrigue and suspense. Can I just say that high school was bad. Social media has just added to the difficulty in the lives of young people now. I am glad I didn’t have any of that when I was growing up. Kids are absolutely brutal. Females especially. Watch out, people can be destroyed online. Becca was also caught in the middle of this crap storm. So much happened. I was satisfied with the conclusion, or what I thought was the conclusion. Then I looked and I was only at like 75% sooo yea, things get crazy fast.

Be prepared to have your mind completely blown. The end of this book will leave you realing! I finished it and was like...o...m...g. That did not just all happen. I love when a book has the ability to take me completely off guard. I was so sucked in that I couldn’t put it down. I will definely be reading more from this author.
Hello Everyone,

I have had some issues in my personal life that have prevented me from giving the time to my blog that I want. I am hoping to now be able to get back into it. First things first, I need to read some books. I haven’t read anything in months. I know...it’s terrible I am going to start up again. Anything you think I should start with?

I have never listened to an audiobook. I know some people are very into them, I just never have been. I'm so busy with work right now that I am considering listening to a book on the commute and on breaks. I am curious what everyone else thinks. Have you listened to audiobooks? Do you enjoy them? Should I give it a try?

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Goodreads Summary:
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">My Review:
<span style="color: #181818; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I picked this one up after I saw the movie trailer. Not going to lie, I hadn't heard of it before then. I was intriged with the movie trailer and thought I'd better read the book first. I am glad I did. Everything Everything was a fun and fast read. It was very well written. You could really feel how hard it was for Madeline to never leave the house. I can't imagine that, especially for a teenager. The best way to describe this book is cute. Madeline and Olly were soooo cute. They way he courted her was perfect. They basically fell for each other with minimal contact which is a not normal. Will Olly and Madeline ever have a normal relationship or will her disease make it impossible?
<span style="color: #181818; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="color: #181818; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I really enjoyed Olly. He didn't have a normal life either. Not quite like Madeline's but, he had his own demons to deal with too. He managed to be much more grown up then he should have to be. I think he was perfect for Madeline. A lot happened for a teenager who couldn't leave her house. Their relationship was adorable!
<span style="color: #181818; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="color: #181818; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I really liked Clara too. She is Madeline's nurse and I felt she added a lot to the story. Her views on Madeline's illness and he way she helped her when things got bad was amazing. I like to think it was more then just because she was a nurse. She cared for Madeline as if she was her own child and that is hard to find.
<span style="color: #181818; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="color: #181818; font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick fun read and I would recommend it to anyone. I would have liked a little more elaboration on the end. Like ok now what happens?!?! Alas there was no more and my mind is left to wonder.
The path to redemption begins where you least expect it.

Kyle Sommerville is in hiding and doesn’t want to be found by anyone. Certainly not by his quirky, free-spirited neighbor who’s managed to push her way past the walls he’s built around him. But Jane Cresson’s indomitable will and insatiable curiosity about her reclusive neighbor makes it impossible for Kyle to stay immersed in his dark world.

Little by little, she claws through his shell.
Day by day, she gets him to smile a little more.
Night by night, they both find pleasure they never knew existed.

When Kyle’s terrible past is exposed, Jane begins to think she’s in over her head. Can her love for this broken man finally clear his path to redemption, or will Kyle’s darkness extinguish every bit of hope she’s put into him?

My Review:
I have to start out by saying. I loved Jane! She was a great female character! She was a super sweet person with a great personality. I loved all of her movie quotes. I can see how she could really mess with Kyle. She lives a quite safe life on a teachers salary. She is an amazing artist and an all around great neighbor. Kyle is not prepared for her. She really dug her heals into the ground when she wanted him. What Jane doesn't know is that Kyle isn't really who he says he is. He has a pretty sorted past. A past that he must keep secret or he will put his life and everyone he cares about at risk.

I loved how Jane not so subtly goes after Kyle. He pushes her away pretty hard but, Jane is relentless. She is so attracted to his bad boy exterior. They have a chemistry even if it isn't always a two way street. Kyle tries very hard to keep Jane away but, he has very little luck. She knows what she wants. It take longer then I wanted for Kyle to show some positive feelings towards Jane but, it does happen. He needs someone like her more then he knows. His past has left Kyle broken and he's not the man he used to be. Jane could be the missing piece that puts Kyle back together again.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick fun read. It was a fun romantic read and one of my favorite from Sawyer Bennett thus far. It's time to start picking up her books!
Goodreads Summary:
Elias and Laia are running for their lives. After the events of the Fourth Trial, Martial soldiers hunt the two fugitives as they flee the city of Serra and undertake a perilous journey through the heart of the Empire.

Laia is determined to break into Kauf—the Empire’s most secure and dangerous prison—to save her brother, who is the key to the Scholars’ survival. And Elias is determined to help Laia succeed, even if it means giving up his last chance at freedom.

But dark forces, human and otherworldly, work against Laia and Elias. The pair must fight every step of the way to outsmart their enemies: the bloodthirsty Emperor Marcus, the merciless Commandant, the sadistic Warden of Kauf, and, most heartbreaking of all, Helene—Elias’s former friend and the Empire’s newest Blood Shrike.

Bound to Marcus’s will, Helene faces a torturous mission of her own—one that might destroy her: find the traitor Elias Veturius and the Scholar slave who helped him escape…and kill them both.

My Review:
I guess it was naive of me to think that the journey to Kauf would be a big easier for Laia and Elias. The journey was full of danger, lies, and death. I never thougth that everyone would survive this journey but, I was not prepared for all the sacrifices that were made. No one will be the same if they make it through this. Friendships and loyalty will be tested. Can Elias and Laia rescue Darin? Is he even alive? Can Helene actually kill Elias? So much intrigue! I was on the edge of my seat with the end of each chapter.

There were a lot of reviews that appeared to not enjoy Helene's new chapters in this one. I personally loved them. It was very interesting to see what was going on inside the Empire while Elias and Laia were on the run. There was a massive amount of internal conflict for Helene. Helene went through so many terrible things. She is broken now and everyone is at risk. She is going to get her revenge and everyone who has wronged her should be afraid...very afraid.

Elias...oh how I just love him. I wanted him and Laia together so much! They had so many beautiful moments. There is a cloud between them...well 2 actually. Keenan for one. A thorn in my side that boy is. I have never liked him. I figured a journey across the desert would be more romantic however they aren't alone often and Elias has a lot to deal with. I still have high hopes. With everything that's happened I am uncertain of anyone's future.

I am very sad that I have to wait until 2018 sometime for the next book in the series. That is way to long! I am invested in these characters and need to know what is going to happen with 2 more books planned. I am glad I picked this series up. It lived up to the hype and I was worried it wouldn't. So now I play the looooooong waiting game for the next book.
Hello Everyone!!

I know, it's been a crazy long time since I blogged. I have had some issues in my life that kept me from blogging. What's important is that I am back! I am hoping to have more time to blog in the upcoming months. I have missed it a lot. My job has been so crazy and I have went down in hours to keep myself sane. Therefore I now have some "me time" back for the things I love. One of those is blogging. Reviews will start again!
