ARC Review of From Deities by Mary Ting!

Goodreads Summary:
A mysterious stranger enters Skylar’s inner circle, throwing her life out of balance. As secrets are revealed, she learns of the New Olympus; a dwelling for the descendants of the Gods. The Grand family must strive to work together with these descendants to discover the key to their rescue from the clutches of the growing evil vultures of Hades. As the threat increases, Skylar must learn to control her newfound powers before it’s too late.

My Review:
Sky’s life has become a little crazy since the last time we saw her. With the combination of Medusa and Hades blood, she is dangerous in many ways. She is still coming into her powers and is a little scared at the power that is forming. Luckily she has Mason and the rest of the gang to help her through this. She feels like someone is watching her all the time. Unfortunately, she is right. She isn’t safe. Someone wants her and will stop at nothing to get her. This puts everyone she loves at risk. Will Sky ever be safe? Who is this person who wants her so badly?

Mason has taken on the role of Sky’s protector. He is always there for her. This is a good thing because someone isn’t being honest with them. Someone is helping the bad guys get to her. There are multiple battles and fights that take place. And let me say that it is a good thing Sky has such strong friends because her fate could have been very different. The enemy is evolving and is more dangerous than ever before. The Vultures defiantly have a powerful person pulling the strings. Who could it be? Sky also has a new person in her life. Someone from her past that she never thought she would see again. This person changes everything.

We are also introduced to some new power players. More descendants are out there. Those who are willing to help and have powers of their own. I enjoyed this aspect of the story! I love all the Greek Gods so this was an excellent addition to the story.

We still get to see romantic times between Sky and Mason, even though the situation is pretty serious. This is an action packed story with an ending I didn't see coming. There was a bit of a cliffhanger at the ending. In order to save her family will Sky be able to complete this task? A task that could end very badly for her. I don’t know the answer because it will be in the next book! Which I need soon!

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick

Goodreads Summary:
Sometimes danger is hard to see... until it’s too late.

Britt Pfeiffer has trained to backpack the Teton Range, but she isn't prepared when her ex-boyfriend, who still haunts her every thought, wants to join her. Before Britt can explore her feelings for Calvin, an unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a remote cabin, accepting the hospitality of its two very handsome occupants—but these men are fugitives, and they take her hostage.

In exchange for her life, Britt agrees to guide the men off the mountain. As they set off, Britt knows she must stay alive long enough for Calvin to find her. The task is made even more complicated when Britt finds chilling evidence of a series of murders that have taken place there... and in uncovering this, she may become the killer’s next target.

But nothing is as it seems in the mountains, and everyone is keeping secrets, including Mason, one of her kidnappers. His kindness is confusing Britt. Is he an enemy? Or an ally?

BLACK ICE is New York Times bestselling author Becca Fitzpatrick’s riveting romantic thriller set against the treacherous backdrop of the mountains of Wyoming. Falling in love should never be this dangerous…

My Review:
This is the first book by Becca Fitzpatrick that I have read. I have been waiting to read this one since I saw the cover. Despite some of the negative reactions to this book I enjoyed it. It kept me interested and had a fun and twisty story. Britt and her friend Korbie decide to go hiking in the mountains instead of to the beach for spring break. A girl after my own heart. I would have chosen the same. To Britt's surprise her ex, and Korbie's brother, Calvin decides to chaperon. Britt is still conflicted about how she feels about Calvin and isn't too happy about him coming. While getting supplies she picks a random guy in the store to play her fake boyfriend. Lucky for her he plays along and does a great job. When Britt and Korbie are on their way to the cabin a big storm hits and they are stranded in the jeep. They decide to walk and hopefully find a place to get out of the weather. They stumble upon a cabin with a couple guys in it. A couple hot guys, unfortunately for the girls things go south fast. They are not regular guys, they are fugitives and their trip just got a whole lot worse. Will they make it off the mountain or die trying?

Mason and Shaun have to get off the mountain and Britt is their best chance. They are on the run and can't wait to be rescued. Luckily for Britt she has had some training and has Calvin's map that is very detailed. Britt however recognizes Mason as the guy at the gas station. She tries to use that to her advantage. He didn't come off as a kidnapper to me. Not someone who would commit crime either. There was just something about him that was different. I was on his team the whole time to be honest. There's something about forbidden love that I like and falling for your kidnapper takes the cake. Mason and Britt share glances and secret conversations. Britt is conflicted about this for obvious reasons. Let’s just say things get steamy with these two until Britt finds incriminating evidence. Will she be able to get away to the safety of Calvin? Is running away more dangerous?

I really enjoyed this book. Did some stuff happen that was kind of unbelievable? Yes. I thought it was perfectly normal for Britt to retreat to her positive memories of Calvin to escape her situation. I didn't really like Calvin though. I think it was because he cheated on Britt and I hate that. No matter what. Korbie was your typical rich girl stereotype. Not to bright and kind of annoying. I thought they all worked well for the story though.

I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future!

Goodreads Summary:
Pretending to be something they’re not, afraid to trust anyone completely, destined to tear each other apart– this is the story of unlikely love and unbearable consequences.

Sig Locke is a cop. He was raised by a cop and all his brothers are cops. He bleeds blue, believes in right and wrong, and sees in black and white, never in shades of gray.

But that was before he met Tommi.

Tommi, with her long legs and bright green eyes, she captured Sig’s interest from the moment he saw her. Even after he discovered who she was–the girlfriend of a drug dealer, the beauty behind a criminal–he still found her utterly irresistible. What Sig doesn’t know, however, is that she has a secret even a cop can’t uncover.

Tommi Lawrence hasn’t had an easy life, and it only got more complicated the day she met Sig. She learned long ago that she can’t trust anyone. Her gut tells her that Sig is no exception, her heart tells her that he is. But that was before she found out his real identity.

Can love be forged in a fire of lies? Or will the truth destroy them both?

Question of the Week:
Book looks - Your favorite fashions from the books you've read - Suggested by
This is actually an easy answer for me. I love the time period that Cassandra Clare's Infernal Devices series was set in. The old fashion dresses and dressed up men. I absolutely love it! I would love to dress like that all the time. One Halloween I am totally doing it! To be honest I am not big on fashion, personally I hate the current trends. I do basically whatever I want. But I would love to wear the dress on Clockwork Princess's cover!

Goodreads Summary (From Netgalley):
At a school where Quantum Paradox 101 is a required course and history field trips are literal, sixteen year-old time traveler Bree Bennis excels…at screwing up.

After Bree botches a solo midterm to the 21st century by accidentally taking a boy hostage (a teensy snafu), she stands to lose her scholarship. But when Bree sneaks back to talk the kid into keeping his yap shut, she doesn’t go back far enough. The boy, Finn, now three years older and hot as a solar flare, is convinced he’s in love with Bree, or rather, a future version of her that doesn’t think he’s a complete pain in the arse. To make matters worse, she inadvertently transports him back to the 23rd century with her.

Once home, Bree discovers that a recent rash of accidents at her school are anything but accidental. Someone is attacking time travelers. As Bree and her temporal tagalong uncover seemingly unconnected clues—a broken bracelet, a missing data file, the art heist of the millennium—that lead to the person responsible, she alone has the knowledge to piece the puzzle together. Knowledge only one other person has. Her future self.

But when those closest to her become the next victims, Bree realizes the attacker is willing to do anything to stop her. In the past, present, or future.

Goodreads Summary:
Abby Bartlett is the quintessential nice girl. Between teaching, volunteering, completing her PhD, and helping her best friend raise his daughter, Abby never gets the chance to be anything but nice. That is, until the all-wrong-for-her man she’s only ever known from afar starts daring her to simply take that chance for herself. His sage advice? Try something wild and fast.

Preferably him.

An unbridled, hotshot attorney with a not-so-little black book, Connor Sullivan has earned himself quite the bad boy reputation. But in his defense, he’s a very conscientious one. He knows far too well that sometimes in life, love isn’t enough…or worse, not even a factor at all. To avoid that misery—and repel the drama—Connor always makes his one and only rule crystal clear right from the start. Absolutely nothing more than a month.

Turns out, a whole lot can happen in one month.

Note: This is NOT a standalone. This is the first book in a three-book serial.

STAY WITH ME TRAILER: EXCERPT: As I lay there, trying to swallow a loud, obnoxious yawn, I remembered something he’d said when we first met, about life being too short. I imagined he had firsthand experience with shortened lives while he was serving. That mentality came from experience. I got that now. Could even understand it, but there was something I didn’t understand. “Why?” I asked. There was a beat. “Why what?” Jax sounded tired, and I should shut up or point out that I was now tired and could sleep, so he could leave. But I didn’t. “Why are you here? You don’t know me and . . .” I trailed off, because there really wasn’t anything left to say. A minute went by, and he hadn’t answered my question, and then I think another minute ticked on, and I was okay with him not answering because maybe he didn’t even know. Or maybe he was just bored and that was why he was here. But then he moved. Jax pressed against my back, and the next breath I took got stuck in my throat. My eyes shot open. The sheet and blanket were between us, but they felt like nothing. “What are you doing?” I asked. “Getting comfortable.” He dropped an arm over my waist, and my entire body jerked against his. “It’s time to sleep I think.” “But—” “You can’t sleep when you talk,” he remarked. “You don’t need to be all up on me,” I pointed out. His answering chuckle stirred the hair along the back of my neck. “Honey, I’m not all up on you.” I freaking begged to differ on that point. I started to wiggle away, but the arm around my waist tightened, holding me in place. “You’re not going anywhere,” he announced casually, as if he wasn’t holding me prisoner in the bed. Okay. The whole prisoner thing might be melodramatic, but he wasn’t letting me up. Not when he was getting all kinds of comfy behind me. Oh my God, this was spooning. Total spooning. I was spooning with an honorary member of the Hot Guy Brigade. Did I wake up in a parallel universe? “Sleep,” he demanded, as if the one word carried that much power. “Go to sleep, Calla.” This time his voice was softer, quieter. “Yeah, it doesn’t work that way, Jax. You have a nice voice, but it doesn’t hold the power to make me sleep on your command.” He chuckled. I rolled my eyes, but the most ridiculous thing ever was the fact that after a couple of minutes, my eyes stayed shut. I . . . I actually settled in against him. With his front pressed to my back, his long legs cradling mine, and his arm snug around my waist, I actually did feel safe. More than that, I felt something else—something I hadn’t felt in years. I felt cared for . . . cherished. Which was the epitome of dumb, because I barely knew him, but feeling that, recognizing what the warm, buzzing feeling was, I fell right asleep.   Stay With Me Teaser 2     STAY WITH ME Synopsis: From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Wait for You and Be with Me comes a daring tale that pushes boundaries . . . Seeress by Ednah Walters

Goodreads Summary:
I love Torin St. James...
I need his strength…
But someone from his past wants me dead.

Raine Cooper is certain of two things: her love for Torin St. James and her destiny to be a powerful seeress. But when she starts having premonitions, they are unclear and disturbing. Worse, they involve Torin. With her mother gone, her father dying, and her best friend in Hel, she is not sure who to talk to.

But when the visions become more personal and she foresees her future with Torin threatened by someone from his past, Raine becomes desperate for answers. Just her luck two new students arrive at her school and they seem to have answers. When with them, her powers are enhanced and her visions become clear. There is only one problem: Torin forbids Raine to see the two girls.

Can their love survive without trust?

My Review:
Life can get a little scary when you finally start having visions but, they are of others of your kind being killed. Especially when the person behind it looks an awful lot like the man you love. This is Raine's life now. She tries to live day to day as normal as possible with her Dad's illness slowly getting worse. she has a lot going on. Never really any time to herself. To make matters worse a lot of her support structure is gone. She has her Dad and Torin to lean on. What do you do when you begin to suspect the closest people around you? When trust is questioned who wins?

We get to see a lot of our favorite characters in Seeress. Of course Echo is on the top of my list and him and Torin working together was something I never thought I'd see. I am pretty much addicted to Cora and Echo's story now so I am glad they were frequently in Seeress. We also get to see Eirik too! Yay!! I was so worried about him...still am I guess. One of the people that really surprised me was Ingrid. She has changed a lot since her sisters death. I really like where her character is going and I would love a story for her and Andris!

Raine and Torin are so perfect for each other. This is very evident in this book. They have some pretty intense make out sessions but, decided to wait for anything beyond that. Which is driving me crazy! These two need to hook up already! Ok, now that's out of my system. Torin even is surprised by some of the new people introduced in this one. A person from his past he never thought he'd see again. Even through all this and questionable trust, Raine is still there for Torin and Torin for Raine. Even I was worried about Torin. He does some sneaky stuff and disappears a few times. I was like what is he doing!?! Will Raine be able to trust Torin again?

I love Norse mythology so this series is one of my favorites. I am always curious about these characters and where their stories lead. I am hopeing for an Ingrid and Andris get together and books, as well as one for Eirik! A girl can dream right? If you haven't read this series yet go get it!

Teaser
(Mason’s point of view)

Suddenly, something caught the corner of my eyes and I turned away from Sky. Tiny bubbles of water hovered in the air in front of us. They looked like bubbles, so I zapped one with a small bolt and it popped.
I knew it was from Sky by the sly yet innocent smile and her giggles, not to mention a few more bubbles coming out of the water bottle. It was amazing to see this transformation, yet she was handling it better than I would have. Perhaps it was the fact that she was getting used to the paranormal life, and she had support around her.
I closed the bottle and handed it to her just in case she wanted more. With a shake of my head, I mouthed, “No, no, no.” After planting a kiss on her forehead, I put it back inside the backpack.
To my surprise, I saw more water bubblies, so I poked one with my finger … it wasn’t the reaction that I got last time. My finger went right through it, and it retained its form when I removed my finger. I even used my bolt, but nothing happened.
Turning at the sound of laughter, I noted we were engulfed with water bubbles, multiplying by the second. I glanced at Noah and Tim, the two that I thought were behind this, but when they seemed fascinated by it. Therefore, I knew they had nothing to do with it, especially since their water bottles were closed. The only other person I thought would do this was Sky, but she appeared worried instead of amused.
“Mason. I’m not doing this. I don’t think it’s from one of us,” she said under her breath. Her eyes were wide and frightened, glued to the bubbles dancing in front of her.
