Title: Breaking Away
Author: Toni Aleo
Series: Assassins #5
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
Publication: June 10, 2014

BREAKING AWAY is a story of loss, healing, and love… where unexpected turns and heartache lead to passion.

To Nashville Assassins’ leading scoring center Phillip Anderson, playing hockey has always been easy… as natural as breathing. His life is no different. That’s until his world is turned upside down by the death of his sister. While mourning his loss, Phillip has to find a way to make his very angry sixteen-year-old niece, Claire, happy. Now, as her guardian, he discovers the only thing that seems to heal her lonely heart is dance class. But what he didn’t count on was the attraction he’d feel towards her drop-dead sexy dance teacher.

For Reese Allen, dancing has always been part of her soul. After having her heart broken in New York, she comes home with the determination to make her dance studio one of the best in Tennessee and succeeds. When she sees Claire dance for the first time, she knows the girl is bound for greatness and takes the troubled teen under her wing. Using dance as therapy, she suddenly finds herself bound to the young woman… and her hot-as-sin uncle.

However, Phillip and Reese are happy in their single lives. It’s simple. They do what they want, who they want, and how they want, but from the moment they meet, the attraction is undeniable. Soon, they are more than willing to spend just one night tangled in the sheets. But, one night turns into two, and two turns into three, until they find themselves in a repeated dance of “One Last Time” that has the potential to be something more… if only Reese and Claire allow it.

Can Phillip find a way to thaw the hearts of both the women in his life, or will he be forever trying to break them away from their pasts?

My Review

My description in 2 sentences:
"Breaking Away is the hottest Assassin's book yet! Prepare yourself for a lust filled ride, as Reese dances her way into Phillips heart."

A couple GIF's

To explain this book in one word I would have to say HOT! Wow is Phillip and Reese’s story sizzling. Reese is single and ready to mingle. After having her heart broken she has given up on love and decided to go heavy on the lust. She isn't looking for a boyfriend; she just wants to have fun. She is also a successful dancer with her own studio. What more could you as for right? Phillip is the male version of Reese. He enjoys a variety of women. Phillip ends up taking over guardianship of his sister’s teenage daughter and his life changes. He has someone else to worry about now. Someone who is on the rebel side of her teen years, hates everyone, and is angry. Phillip needs help. He asks Reese’s sister, Harper, to take her when he is gone. This leads to Harper seeing Claire dance, which leads to Reese seeing Claire dance and she is very good. Phillip and Reese’s worlds are about to collide. Are they ready for it?

This book alternates between Phillip and Reese’s point of view but, there is also Claire. She doesn't get her own chapters but, she is a huge part of this book. She has had a rough life. After her mother died she wanted to be with Phillip but, he was only 18 and not ready. When Claire does end up with Phillip it is rocky at best but, when Phillip takes Claire to Reese’s dance studio things start to change.

Phillip and Reese are seriously lustful. I mean wow. Hold on to your panties because this one is suuuuper hot. These two are worse than horny teenagers! Reese repeatedly says she doesn't want anything serious and neither does Phillip. Until he does that is. Phillip thinks he will just wait it out and eventually she will fall for him….right? I mean these two are basically dating without calling it dating. Unfortunately, Reese is incredibly stubborn. She will not change her ways.  Despite her family and Claire thinking it’s a great idea. She is too afraid to get hurt again. Are they destined for each other or will they both end up broken?

Toni Aleo does it yet again. This book was amazing. Still so different from the other Assassin books! I am so excited for Laces and Lace. I literally cannot wait for the next book in this series!

RELEASE DAY LAUNCH!! There's Wild, then there's You by M. Leighton

TWTTY RDL Banner

We are so thrilled to bring you the Release Day Launch for M. Leighton's THERE'S WILD, THEN THERE'S YOU!!! THERE’S WILD, THEN THERE’S YOU is a smoking hot contemporary romance in M. Leighton’s The Wild Ones Series, published by Berkley an imprint of Penguin Group.
There's Wild, Then There's You

THERE’S WILD, THEN THERE’S YOU Synopsis:
He’s someone she can’t trust… She’s someone he thinks he knows… Violet Wilson is a wallflower. Shy, serious, and accident-prone, she’s got a bad habit of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The night she’s forced to pose with her friend might just be the worst time of all—that’s when she meets Jet Blevins. She knows better than to get involved with someone like him, but he touches her in ways she never expected, neverwanted before. On the outside, Jet is a typical rocker, an arrogant lead guitarist who unapologetically lives a wild lifestyle. But on the inside, he’s battling demons and using the stage to escape the troubles of his past and the addictions of his present. Until the night he sees Violet standing at the back of the room. She brings his life into focus. She knows his secrets. She’s the girl he can’t forget, and the one thing he craves more than his addiction. But can they ever hope to have a future when their very foundation is nothing but lies?

Excerpt:
I lick my lips before I raise my eyes to his. Part of me knows I should turn and run, foregoing common courtesies and niceties. Something in me, some deep and rarely used instinct that lives within, knows that once I meet those eyes, I’ll be forever lost. It makes no sense, but I know it like I know my name and my eye color and the way my hair flips out on the ends when it’s rainy outside.
Despite my better judgment, I do it. I look up and up and up until I reach a blue so fathomless I feel like I could dive into and never reach the bottom. Like I could drown and never even know it.
But I can’t do that. I can’t dive in. Not with a guy like this. I’ve seen what someone like this can do to a person—turn that which was once whole and capable into nothing more than scattered pieces of wreckage and ruin.
“I’m Jet,” he offers softly, his eyes never leaving mine.
Jet. Even his name is sexy, which makes me more uncomfortable.
Ridiculous! my rational, level-headed, slightly bitter side scoffs. It pipes up with its less bedazzled perspective, reminding me that guys like this are nothing more than predators. The love ’em and leave ’em type. And he’s obviously worse than most, as evidenced by his attendance here. Apparently, he’s got a real problem.
I give him a tight smile as I straighten away from him. “Violet. Nice to meet you,” I say, hurrying to continue. “Excuse me please.”
I slip on my familiar, no-nonsense persona like a protective shield, like the armor that has kept me from harm all these years. It has never failed me before; I don’t expect it to now.
My head is high, my spine is rigid, and my imperviousness is firmly in place as I move past the dark and damaged stranger. With every step I take, I determine to put him out of my mind and never think of him again.
Until he speaks once more. His words make dents in my breastplate like armor-piercing rounds.
“It’s short,” he calls from a few steps behind me.
Confused, I turn.
Knowing I shouldn’t, still I turn.
“Pardon?”
“My name. It’s short.”
“Short for what?”
I watch as he moves toward me, narrowing the space I only just created. He stops within inches and bends slightly forward, one side of his mouth pulling up into a self-deprecating grin. “Jethro.”
And, just like that, he’s human. And vulnerable. And slightly imperfect. And even more dangerous to me than he was before.

ARC Review of Say What You Will by Cammie McGovern

Goodreads Summary:
John Green's The Fault in Our Stars meets Rainbow Rowell's Eleanor & Park in this beautifully written, incredibly honest, and emotionally poignant novel. Cammie McGovern's insightful young adult debut is a heartfelt and heartbreaking story about how we can all feel lost until we find someone who loves us because of our faults, not in spite of them.

Born with cerebral palsy, Amy can't walk without a walker, talk without a voice box, or even fully control her facial expressions. Plagued by obsessive-compulsive disorder, Matthew is consumed with repeated thoughts, neurotic rituals, and crippling fear. Both in desperate need of someone to help them reach out to the world, Amy and Matthew are more alike than either ever realized.

When Amy decides to hire student aides to help her in her senior year at Coral Hills High School, these two teens are thrust into each other's lives. As they begin to spend time with each other, what started as a blossoming friendship eventually grows into something neither expected.

My Review:
I read this book in one day. It is not your typical YA book. Amy is not your typical heroine nor Mathew your hero. Amy has cerebral palsy and can't walk without a walker, talk without her computer doing it for her, control her limbs or facial expressions. Matthew feels like he doesn't have OCD but he does, and he is more ruled by it then he thinks. These two's lives run into each other when Amy asks Matthew to apply for the peer assistant. Helping her at school between classes and at lunch. Amy has never really had friends so she wants to do this before she ventures to college. I was very moved by Amy's story. She is a girl in a situation that people don't normally think about. She is so strong despite all the obstacles in her life. I can't imagine having a perfect mind with a body that won't listen to you and still being as positive as she is. Her and Matthew work through some of the hardest things life can throw at you. Will their relationship ever be more then friends? Will either of them say anything to each other about it?

Matthew is a very different then your normal guy. He is not popular or super hot. He isn't an athlete. He is an average guy who is fighting with internal demons. Amy changes his life. The job he wasn't sure he could do has turned him into a different person and helps him conquer some of those demons. Amy did for him what he couldn't do for himself.

Like I said earlier, Amy is a very strong individual. She doesn't let her disability stop her. She is extremely smart. Yes, things get very frustrating for her. She can't show expression on her face and her technology that talks for her doesn't show that all the time either. Public speaking was not an easy class for her. Yet she is able to do amazing things. It really makes you think about what she does vs. what some people choose not to do. Your life really isn't that bad is it? She makes it through high school with many of the same experiences you and I have just in a slightly different way. A lot of that because of Matthew. The first semester at college proves to be very difficult for Amy. She is questioning everything and alone all the time. All she wants is friends. I found myself crying a few times during this part. I think we all know what it feels like to be alone. For Amy, it is just more powerful. Especially given the circumstances she is currently in. She made a mistake and now has to survive the consequences. Will she have to do this alone too?

I loved this book. It is a real eye opener. It makes you second guess your life. It makes you appreciate the friends that you do have. I am not sure either Matthew or Amy would have been happy without each other. There isn't a lot of romance in this one which was ok. What little their was fit perfectly. The author did an amazing job writing this book. I highly recommend this one guys!

ARC Review of Rules of Survival by Jus Accardo

Goodreads Summary:
If you want to survive, you have to follow the rules…

Mikayla Morgan is wanted for her mother's murder. She's been on the run for almost a year now, avoiding not only the police but the real killer. Tired of running and desperate to clear her name, she breaks one of the most sacred rules: never return to the scene of the crime.

Every bounty hunter on the Eastern Seaboard is after the Morgan girl—but Shaun Denver and his partner snagged her. She's a piece of work, and Shaun can't decide if he wants to kiss her or kill her. When things take a sharp turn south, Shaun does the only thing he can think of to keep her close—he handcuffs them together.

As the danger mounts and the killer closes in, the chemistry between them threatens to explode. Shaun and Kayla will need to break all the rules if they hope to get out of this alive.

My Review:
Jus Accardo has done it again. Mikayla has been on the run since her mothers murder. She goes against everything she knows and returns to the place they lived in search of answers. She just might get them when she finds a note left behind by her mom. Unfortunately for Mikayla she is interrupted by two bounty hunters. She is momentarily distracted by one of them. Then her survival skills kick in. Mikayla doesn't exactly know how valuable she truly is as their meeting is broke up with gunfire. Mikayla is forced to leave with the two people she hates and left the note behind. Mikayla's life on the run is about to change. She is in a lot of danger. Oh yea, she is also handcuffed to the hotty bounty hunter, Shaun. These two are about to go on the ride of their lives. Full of action. They will have to learn to trust each other and survive. As the real story behind what is happening unfolds. Will they survive?

Mikayla has a lot of questions. Who was her mother talking about in the letter? Who is her father? Was her mother more of a criminal then she knew about? All great questions if you ask me. In her and Shaun's run for survival these questions are answered. Trust me when I say, that the truth is one I never saw coming.

I loved Shaun, he was an awesome companion for Mikayla. They both had to use their ability to survive in dire situations. It is extra difficult due to the handcuffs. Imagine having to work with someone who wants to turn you in to either the guys trying to kill you or the cops. Not exactly easy. These two have two have their moments where cutting their hand of is an actual solution. Out of all the trying times grows a relationship of trust and....lust. Being handcuffed to a hotty has it's advantages. You will see!

There were so many twists and turns and secrets! Oh, the secrets! I am a huge fan of Jus Accardo's writing and all I can say is this one is a must read. I enjoyed these characters so much. It was a very entertaining fast paced read!

Goodreads Summary:
With “a delicious, page-turning premise, and sweet and surprising insights” (New York Times bestselling author Jen Lancaster), Your Perfect Life perfectly illustrates that old adage: Sometimes, you to have to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes to see what’s in her heart.

Best friends since childhood, Casey and Rachel couldn’t lead more different lives. While workaholic Casey rubs elbows with celebrities daily as the host of Gossip TV and comes home nightly to an empty apartment, stay-at-home mom Rachel juggles an “oops” baby, two fiery teenagers, and a husband who barely seems the man she fell in love with two decades before. After an argument at their twentieth high school reunion, Casey and Rachel throw back shots to get the night back on track. Instead, they get a life-changing hangover.

Waking up in each other’s bodies the next morning, they must figure out how to navigate their altered realities. Rachel is forced to confront the reason she gave up her broadcasting dreams when she got pregnant in college, and Casey finally steps out of the spotlight to face the truth about why she’s alone. And they soon discover that they don’t know themselves—or their best friend—nearly as well as they thought they did.

Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke bring humor and heart to every page of this novel that is sure to please fans of In Her Shoes and The Opposite of Me. Your Perfect Life is a story about two very different women, what they didn’t know about each other, and how, by switching lives, they each learn to appreciate their own.

Goodreads Summary:
ΕRCHOMAI, SEBASTIAN HAD SAID.

I am coming.

Darkness returns to the Shadowhunter world. As their society falls apart around them, Clary, Jace, Simon and their friends must band together to fight the greatest evil the Nephilim have ever faced: Clary’s own brother. Nothing in the world can defeat him — must they journey to another world to find the chance?

Goodreads Summary:
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cora Carmack follows up her trio of hits—Losing It, Faking It, and Finding It—with this thrilling first novel in an explosive series bursting with the Texas flavor, edge, and steamy romance of Friday Night Lights.

In Texas, two things are cherished above all else—football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.

Dallas Cole loathes football. That's what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.

But life doesn't always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn’t bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball… as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.

Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It's obliterated.

Dallas doesn't know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn't know that Dallas is his new coach's daughter.

And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel.

Goodreads Summary:
Red mirrored scales race up my arms as the haze of pain blurs my vision. My bones crack, breaking to realign. I scream. It is then that the realization of my unavoidable fate sinks in; I am of a dying race. I am dragon.

Aurora Megalos, orphaned and teetering on the edge of adulthood, thought finding her past would curb the sting of being an outcast. In the dark of night, a crazed Seer, dubbed Mr.Creepy, erases everything she’s ever known with an impending prophecy. She now faces two paths. Return to her true home to protect a dying race against a growing evil, or stay hidden in the safety of our realm with a shot at a true love. With a vengeful Arch Enemy stopping at nothing to see her dead, she’s running out of time; a decision must be made. What would you choose?

Question of the week
Have you ever convinced someone to read a book, a series, or a whole genre? What book(s) and who was it? Did they like it?
At least 5 people at work read the Divergent series after I told them about it. They were all like "I'm to old to read YA" and I was like READ IT!! It was technically a YA book but, still an awesome series. I also got a few people to read The Fault in Our Stars and for obvious reasons, that book was amazing and I pimp it out whenever I can. It's hard to convince adults to read YA but, it is possible!

Wishlist Wednesday #99

Wishlist Wednesday is a weekly post put on by Dani at the Pen to Paper blog. Where you post a book you really really want to read or one that has been on your wishlist! If you've seen my to-read list on Goodreads then you know there are plenty that I could use. So I decided to use this feature every Wednesday.

Title: Rules of Survival
Author: Jus Accardo
Release Date: June 2014
Series Number: 1

My Thoughts:
Yay! Another book by Jus Accardo! I love this woman's writing and I am excited to see another one from her. This one sounds like it's going to be another great and I need it now!

ARC Review Legal Affairs: Confessions of a Litigation God by Sawyer Bennett

Goodreads Summary:
WARNING, LIMITATION OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF THE RISK from Matt Connover, Litigation God: Please do not attempt to read my story in public, as my sexual proclivities have been known to cause squirming in your seat, squeezing of your legs together and unintentional moaning, sometimes with spontaneous bursts of laughter at random moments. If you are offended by the fact that my oral skills are just as accomplished in the bedroom as they are the courtroom, then this book is not for you. There may be moments while reading my story that you get so turned on… so hot and bothered… that your squirming and moaning could turn maniacal in nature and neither I, nor the author, are responsible for the weird looks you may get. Notwithstanding the aforementioned warnings, if you assume the risk and read my tale in public, then I recommend you carry a spare set of panties with you. You will need them and you have been warned.”

My name is Matt Connover. I am a Litigation God.
Other lawyers quake before me.
Women crawl on their knees just to spend the night in my bed and when I’m finished with them, I walk away without a backward glance.

I am well satisfied with my life and there isn’t a damn thing I’d change about it.

That is, until McKayla Dawson came along.

She was meant to be for one night only.
But she got under my skin, and now I want her back underneath my body.

It’s torture working with her in my law firm… day in and day out. But I have to think maybe the Fates have intervened to throw us together because she is unlike anyone I’ve ever known, and thus I need to pay careful attention to these Legal Affairs.

****

Confessions of a Litigation God is a stand alone, full length novel. It follows the affair of Matt Connover and McKayla Dawson as told in the Legal Affairs Serial Romance, Volumes 1-6. This book is told strictly from Matt's point of view and has many additional scenes not included in the serial volumes.

My Review:
I really loved the Legal Affairs serial series. It is one of my favorite reads. I didn't think there was a way to make it better. Holy crap was I proven wrong! Hearing this story from Matt's point of view was insanely hot. That disclaimer at the top of the summary is completely right. Matt is a deliciously arrogant. He is forever the one night stand kind of guy who doesn't need a relationship. Which is why One Night Only works so well for him. Mac throws his whole idea of relationships and sex. Mac is more then just a one night stand. She broke him after one night and he is craving her. Will Matt be able to quit his playboy ways? Will Mac be the person to finally crack that hard facade that is Matt Connover?

The connection between these two is electric. They are simply drawn to each other. Mac a little more in a relationship manner. As much as Matt says it's "just sex" and "they can't do it again", Mac is getting to him and he doesn't like it. After his ex-wife ruined him could Mac be the one to fix him? These two can't keep their hands off each other. No where is safe. Not at work or at home. They will get to each other no matter what. It was so interesting to see Matt's POV. His inner thoughts about certain events from the Legal Affairs serials.

This was yet another great addition to Sawyer Bennett's books. I loved Matt. His arrogant jerk persona was my favorite part. He is a dynamic character who changes throughout this book. He becomes a better man. I loved his version of the story and if you are a Sawyer Bennett fan then you need to go buy it!!
