  EXCERPT:
I didn’t recognize the name on the street sign. Nothing about the rural road looked familiar or friendly. Tall, imposing trees and overgrown weeds choked the front of the dilapidated home. Windows were boarded up. There was a gaping hole where the front door had been. I shivered, wanting to be far away from here…wherever here was. Walking felt harder than it should be, and I stumbled off the chilly asphalt, wincing as sharp gravel dug into my feet. My bare feet? I stopped and looked down. Chipped pink nail polish peeked through the dirt…and blood. Mud caked the legs of my pants, leaving the hems stiff. It made sense, seeing as how I wasn’t wearing any shoes, but the blood…I didn’t understand why there was blood staining the knees of my jeans. My vision clouded and dulled, as if a gray film had been dropped over my eyes. As I stared at the weathered asphalt under my feet, large and smooth rocks replaced the tiny stones. Something dark and oily seeped over the rocks, slipping through the cracks. Sucking in a sharp gasp, I blinked and the image was gone. Hands trembling, I raised them. They were also covered with dirt and scratches. My nails were broken, bloodied. A silver ring wrapped, encased in soil, around my thumb. Air froze in my chest as my gaze crawled over my arms. The sleeves of my sweater were torn, revealing pale flesh covered in bruises and gashes. My legs started to shake as I swayed forward. I tried to remember how this had happened, but my head was empty—a black void where nothing existed. A car drove by, coasting to a stop a few feet in front of me. Somewhere in the trenches of my subconscious, I recognized the flashing red and blue lights as a source of safety. Elegantly scrawled along the black-and-gray side of the cruiser were the words ADAMS COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT. Adams County? A flash of familiarity came and went. The driver’s door opened, and a deputy stepped out. He said something into the radio on his shoulder before he looked at me. “Miss?” He started around the cruiser, taking tentative steps. He looked young for a deputy. Barely out of high school and able to carry a gun seemed wrong somehow. Was I in high school? I didn’t know. “We’ve received some calls into dispatch concerning you,” he said gently. “Are you okay?” I tried to respond, but only a hoarse squeak came out. Clearing my throat, I winced as the motion scratched and pulled. “I…I don’t know.” “Okay.” The deputy held up his hands as he approached me, as if I were a skittish deer about to bolt. “My name is Deputy Rhode. I’m here to help you. Do you know what you’re doing out here?” “No.” Knots formed in my belly. I didn’t even know where here was. His smile strained. “What’s your name?” My name? Everyone knew their name, but as I stared at the deputy, I couldn’t answer his question. The knots started twisting more. “I don’t…I don’t know what my name is.” He blinked, and the smile was completely gone. “You don’t remember anything?” I tried again, concentrating on the empty space between my ears. That was how it felt. And I knew that wasn’t good. My eyes started to tear up. “Miss, it’s okay. We’ll get you taken care of.” He reached out, lightly taking hold of my arm. “We’ll get this sorted.” Deputy Rhode led me around the back of his cruiser. I didn’t want to sit behind the Plexiglas, because I knew that wasn’t good. Only bad people sat behind the glass in police cruisers. I wanted to object, but before I could say anything, he settled me into the seat and wrapped a coarse blanket around my shoulders. Before he locked me in the bad part of the car, he knelt and smiled reassuringly. “Everything’s going to be okay.” But I knew he was lying, trying to make me feel better. It didn’t work. How could everything be okay when I didn’t know my own name?

  ABOUT DON’T LOOK BACK:
Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all—popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend. Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it's one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took "mean girl" to a whole new level, and it's clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She's getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she's falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her—even if the old Sam treated him like trash. But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn't just buried deep inside of Sam's memory—someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

“This engrossing thriller packs a heady atmospheric punch with plenty of theatrical scares,” Kirkus Reviews

“Armentrout has written another winner. From the first page to the last, she builds both terror and confusion to the point where readers will be hooked and on the edge of their seat. This standalone contains all of Armentrout’s usual trademarks– a strong and determined heroine, witty comments and hot guys–but she adds in an extra layer by ratcheting up the suspense to the highest degree and follows it up with an ending no one will see coming.” RT BOOK REVIEWS 4 1/2 Stars TOP PICK

Question of the week
Tell us about a book that you didn’t like and why we shouldn’t read it (as nicely and respectfully as possible).
I hate doing a bad review. I typically only read what I like so I don't do it very often but, there have been a few. The first one that came to mind was Rush by Maya Banks. It was super popular after Fifty Shades so I figured I'd give it a chance. I didn't even finish it and actually gave it away. I do not, not finish a book like ever. So that was really hard on me to not finish it. It just wasn't for me.

ARC Review of The Forever Song by Juile Kagawa

Goodreads Summary:
VENGEANCE WILL BE HERS

Allison Sekemoto once struggled with the question: human or monster?

With the death of her love, Zeke, she has her answer.

MONSTER

Allie will embrace her cold vampire side to hunt down and end Sarren, the psychopathic vampire who murdered Zeke. But the trail is bloody and long, and Sarren has left many surprises for Allie and her companions—her creator, Kanin, and her blood brother, Jackal. The trail is leading straight to the one place they must protect at any cost—the last vampire-free zone on Earth, Eden. And Sarren has one final, brutal shock in store for Allie.

In a ruined world where no life is sacred and former allies can turn on you in one heartbeat, Allie will face her darkest days. And if she succeeds, triumph is short-lived in the face of surviving forever alone.

My Review:
I am so sad to see this series end. I have really enjoyed it. I was super excited to get an ARC of this one. With the way the previous book left off. Allison, Kanin, and Jackal are on the move. Trying to catch Sarren before he gets to Eden and completely destroys what's left of humanity. He has a mutated virus that affects vampires as well as humans. There journey is long, especially when they have to walk most of it. They run into a lot of rabids that make things worse and their journey more dangerous. There are a lot of surprises a long the way. Allie is struggling too. After the loss of Zeke and the thought that her adopted human family is probably dead in Eden. She has a hard time focusing and does lose herself to the Monster for a while. She doesn't want to feel. It is just to much. To lose everything you cared for more then once is just to much for her. Giving in to the Monster is easy. Kanin doesn't like this and Jackal loves it. Will they make it to Eden in time? Will Allie spend the rest of forever alone?

I really liked Allie. She is such a strong character. She understand what she is and tries to fight it. She knows she will always need blood and will always be dangerous. Like I said she gives into the Monster for a bit. Kanin does help her come out of it though. Kanin is one of my favorite characters. He is the strong silent type. A great master vampire. Jackal is still that loud, annoying, pain in the butt but, he is also funny. He was the comic relief between depressed Allie and quite Kanin. They make a pretty great family actually. I missed Zeke. Him and Allie were so cute together. Sarren has a lot of tricks up his sleeves. He knows exactly how to get to these guys. Allie especially. Expect the unexpected! Not everyone will survive the war that is coming.

I loved how this one ended. I thought it was a great way to end the series. Not a 100% happy ending. It was bitter sweet but, I really liked it. It fit so well. Like I said, I am sad to see this one ending but, all good things must come to an end. I will definitely be reading more from Julie Kagawa!

ARC Review of Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong

Goodreads Summary:
In the Forest of the Dead, where the empire’s worst criminals are exiled, twin sisters Moria and Ashyn are charged with a dangerous task. For they are the Keeper and the Seeker, and each year they must quiet the enraged souls of the damned.

Only this year, the souls will not be quieted.

Ambushed and separated by an ancient evil, the sisters’ journey to find each other sends them far from the only home they’ve ever known. Accompanied by a stubborn imperial guard and a dashing condemned thief, the girls cross a once-empty wasteland, now filled with reawakened monsters of legend, as they travel to warn the emperor. But a terrible secret awaits them at court—one that will alter the balance of their world forever.

My Review:
Sea of Shadows is a crazy ride. Moria and Ashyn are twins. This is a very rare thing. They are the Keeper and Seeker of the forest. Every year the criminals are sent into the forest. They are sent their to pretty much die. No one comes back. The Seeker (Ashyn) is then sent in with a party of people to release the soles of those who died to make sure their spirits don't retaliate on the city. Which the Keeper (Moria) is charged to protect. Something is different this year. There are survivors and the spirits will not be silenced. Ashyn is in danger and Moria is worried. A search party is sent in. They run into angry spirits and creatures that are not suppose to exist. Will the sisters and their companions survive this? Will they be able to protect their loved ones or are they all destined to die?

The girls each have their relationships. Moria with Gavril and Ashyn with Ronan. There wasn't really a lot of time for romance though. There is a lot of carnage and death. They are literally on the run for their lives the whole time. I liked them but, didn't really feel any romantic pull towards one or the other. The boys did do a pretty good job keeping their girls safe. Still, not everyone makes it out alive. There are secrets being kept that will destroy them. Will they make it through this and rescue the children that were taken?

Sea of Shadows is a completely different story from anything I have read recently. It was a very interesting read with plenty of action after things started. I really enjoyed it and hope there will be another in this series!

Goodreads Summary:
A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

He’ll teach her how to bring a man to his knees…

Dr. Ellie Swan has a plan: open her practice in tiny Bluelick, Kentucky, so she can keep an eye on her diabetic father, and make hometown golden-boy Roger Reynolds fall in love with her. But Ellie has a problem. Roger seeks a skilled, sexually adventurous partner, and bookish Ellie doesn’t qualify.

Tyler Longfoot only cares about three things: shaking his bad boy image, qualifying for the loan his company needs to rehab a piece of Bluelick’s history, and convincing Ellie to keep quiet about the “incident” that lands him on her doorstep at two a.m. with a bullet in his behind.

The adorable Dr. Swan drives a mean bargain, though. If sex-on-a-stick Tyler will teach Ellie how to bring a man to his knees, she’ll forget about the bullet. Armed with The Wild Woman’s Guide to Sex and Tyler’s lessons, Ellie is confident she can become what Roger needs…if she doesn’t fall for Tyler first.

BLOG TOUR!! Just Destiny by Theresa Rizzo!

Description:
What would you do if your whole world fell apart?

Jenny Harrison made some poor choices in the past, but marrying Gabe was the best thing she’d ever done. They had the perfect marriage, until a tragic accident leaves Gabe brain dead and her world in ruins.

Devastated by grief, she decides to preserve the best of their love by conceiving his child, but Gabe’s family is adamantly opposed, even willing to chance exposing long-held family secrets to stop her. Caught in a web of twisted motives and contentious legal issues, Jenny turns to best friend and attorney, Steve Grant. Steve wants to help Jenny, but he has reservations and secrets of his own.

When something so private and simple turns public and complicated, will Jenny relent? What is Steve willing to sacrifice to help Jenny?

My Review:
Jenny is loving her life. She has a great husband and a great marriage. She has step children and is ok with that. She is a journalist at the paper. Then something unexpected happens. During a vacation with her husband there is an accident and he dies. He pushed her out of the way of the car and saved her. Jenny is overcome with grief and chooses to donate Gabe's organs and to have his sperm saved so she could conceive their child. Unfortunately for Jenny, not all of Gabe's family is ok with this. His uncle, George, who took Gabe in as a child finds out things get a little crazy. He threatens to sue Jenny because it isn't right, in his mind. Right when things couldn't get worse, Jenny is about to enter into a legal/ethical battle. As if losing your husband isn't enough. All her dirty laundry will be aired in public. Will Jenny prevail and get the baby she so desperately wants? Will her deepest secrets come out?

I really liked Jenny. She had to go through so much. Losing so much. I'm not sure how she was able to do it all. Steve was a great help to her. Her best friend really. He disagreed with what she was doing but, was still a good friend. Judith, Gabe's ex-wife, was also an unlikely source of support. Jenny has secrets that she doesn't want people to know about. I think she learns that omissions are also a form of lies. You can't always get what you want. I'm not going to lie. If it had been my husband the same thoughts would go through my mind. The same desire to have a child. I don't blame her at all and I think George went about the whole thing the wrong way. Especially, when he has secrets of his own.

I liked Gabe, I did. He seemed like a good man for the time we got to know him. I really liked Steve though. He was such a good guy. I secretly hoped that him and Jenny would get together. There are so many different emotions in this story. The author did a great job portraying Jenny's grief and her journey towards healing. This was a great read! Be sure to pick up your copy!!

But we’ve got bigger problems. I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. ARC Review of The Ring and the Crown by Melissa de la Cruz

Goodreads Summary:
Princess Marie-Victoria, heir to the Lily Throne, and Aelwyn Myrddn, bastard daughter of the Mage of England, grew up together. But who will rule, and who will serve?

Quiet and gentle, Marie has never lived up to the ambitions of her mother, Queen Eleanor the Second, Supreme Ruler of the Franco-British Empire. With the help of her Head Merlin, Emrys, Eleanor has maintained her stranglehold on the world's only source of magic. She rules the most powerful empire the world has ever seen.

But even with the aid of Emrys' magic, Eleanor's extended lifespan is nearing its end. The princess must marry and produce an heir or the Empire will be vulnerable to its greatest enemy, Prussia. The two kingdoms must unite to end the war, and the only solution is a match between Marie and Prince Leopold VII, heir to the Prussian throne. But Marie has always loved Gill, her childhood friend and soldier of the Queen's Guard.

Together, Marie and Aelwyn, a powerful magician in her own right, come up with a plan. Aelwyn will take on Marie's face, allowing the princess to escape with Gill and live the quiet life she's always wanted. And Aelwyn will get what she's always dreamed of--the chance to rule. But the court intrigue and hunger for power in Lenoran England run deeper than anyone could imagine. In the end, there is only rule that matters in Eleanor's court: trust no one.

My Review:
It took me a little bit to really get into this book. The plot is pretty in depth so all the characters need descriptions and the time period set up. Give it time though, this is a great story. The story takes place quite a long time ago, it is never really specified. Complete with Royalty, Kings, Queen’s, Prince and Princesses. My favorite part has to be the magic users though. The world set up is just great; the way all the characters’ lives intertwined was simply brilliant. The Ring and the Crown is a story about duty, honor, love and heartbreak. In a world where you have to do what is best for a country which doesn’t always involve love. These characters are tasked with many choices about their lives. Some that would leave them happy and some that are because of your status in society. Would you be able to make the tough choices? To decide what is right or who to love?

The story starts by introducing you to all the characters; Wolf, Marie, Leo, Isabelle, Ronan, and Aelwyn. All are from different levels of society. Wolf and Leo are brothers, both Princes. Leo is to be King and Wolf is just living in the background. Isabelle is betrothed to Leo. Marie is the Princess of England. Aelwyn is a magic user and Ronan is a noble from the America’s. They all live within the same world but, nothing is as it seems. There are secret motives and liars among them. Their worlds soon come crashing together in ways that I never imagined. I don’t usually read books from this time period but, I loved it. The Royalty, the way they talked, and the clothes. I think I will be reading more.

There is a lot of romance going on. I don’t want to give anything away but, let’s just say that there is definitely scandal and love ahead. True love is something that is treasured among humans. We all deserve it right? Unless there is a war that needs to be stopped and countries to save. Choices are made and hearts are broken. Will anyone get the happily ever after they are looking for? Or will duty win this battle?

I really enjoyed this book. I realized how much I like this era. There was so much deception and stuff going on in the background I never knew what was coming. You don’t have to like historical reads to enjoy this one!

E-ARC'S

Goodreads Summary:
It’s time.

Evil is running rampant and sweet Anna Whitt is its target. Nobody knows when or how the Dukes will strike, but Anna and her Nephilim allies will do anything necessary to rid the earth of the demons and their oppressive ways.

The stakes are higher than ever, and Anna is determined that the love she feels will be her strength, not a liability. But trying to protect the ones she loves while running for her life and battling demonic forces proves to be perilous—especially as faces are changing and trust is fleeting. When the Duke of Lust sends Anna’s great love, Kaidan Rowe, to work against her, Anna must decide how much she’s prepared to risk.

In the most sensual and fast-paced installment yet, Sweet Reckoning brings all the beloved Neph together one last time to fight for their freedom.

Goodreads Summary:
In this timeless new trilogy about love and sacrifice, a princess must find her place in a reborn world.

In a society steeped in tradition, Princess Lia’s life follows a preordained course. As First Daughter, she is expected to have the revered gift of sight—but she doesn’t—and she knows her parents are perpetrating a sham when they arrange her marriage to secure an alliance with a neighboring kingdom—to a prince she has never met.

On the morning of her wedding, Lia flees to a distant village. She settles into a new life, hopeful when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assasin sent to kill her. Deception abounds, and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—even as she finds herself falling in love.

Goodreads Summary:
Blackmail. Sex. Ferro.

An engaement is the farthest thing from my mind, but as Neil holds up the ring I glance around and notice someone is missing. Maggie. The man had the audacity to invite everyone else except my best friend. Where is she? When I go to find out, I don't like what I discover.

Once, I'd thought I was different from the Ferros and the Campagones, but when it comes down to it--I'm exactly the same.
