Darker Days by Jus Accardo

Goodreads Summary:
Jessie Darker goes to high school during the day, but at night she helps with the family investigation business. Cheating husbands and stolen inheritances? They’re your girls—but their specialty is a bit darker. Zombie in your garage? Pesky Poltergeist living in your pool? They’ll have the problem solved in a magical minute. For a nominal fee, of course...

When gorgeous new client, Lukas Scott, saunters into the office requesting their help to find a stolen box, it sounds like a simple case—until the truth comes out. The box is full of Sin.

Seven deadly ones, in fact.

They’ve got five days to recapture the Sins before they're recalled by the box, taking seven hijacked human bodies with them. Easy peasy—except for one thing...

There’s a spell that will allow the Sins to remain free, causing chaos forever. When the key ingredient threatens the life of someone she knows, Jessie must make the ultimate choice between love and family—or lose everything.

My Review:
Jessie Darker does not have a normal life. Underneath the average high school student is the girl who fights things that go bump in the night. Her mom wants her to have a semi-normal life but, that's kind of hard to do when your in their line of work. Luckily for Jessie, she actually likes what she does. Little does she know her life is about to change when Lukas Scott walks in. His request seems like it shouldn't be terrible to complete. However, it comes with consequences that neither Jessie nor her mom saw coming. Innocent lives are at risk and their time to complete the task is minimal. Will Jessie and her mom be able to get the Sins back in the box?

Jessie and Lukas both have their secrets. Lukas struggles with his on almost a daily basis. It is hard for him to stay in control. When a ghost from his past turns up, things get crazy. Jessie does her best to have her life and work at the agency. I felt like she didn't really get to do a lot of things kids her age do. I mean the seven sins were on the loose which made things harder. She is surrounded by the supernatural. Despite her mom telling her to stay out of it Jessie inserts herself into investigation. This leads to some very dangerous situations. Especially since Jessie is developing feelings for Lukas...and his time is limited.

I do love the dynamic between Lukas and Jessie. Lukas with his old fashion self and Jessie very upfront and different from what he is used to. They are so perfect for each other it hurts. Since their time is limited things heat up quick between them. I loved it!! They fell fast and hard for each other. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

This was yet another great start to a new series. I have liked all the books by this author and intend to keep reading them. I hope I don't have to wait to long for the next one in this series!

LEGAL AFFAIRS – OBJECTION – SCENE EXCERPT
I’m frozen in place. I have to clue what to do.
Yes, I have hormones, pheromones, and even just good old, run-of-the-mill moans stuck in the back of my throat, which are on the verge of busting loose. My mind whirls… what did Matt meant by that statement?
Do I slap him or jump him?
We stare at each other… his eyes blazing an inferno of desire, mine probably reflecting the “deer in the headlights” look.
Swallowing hard, I say, “I think—”
Matt lunges at me, catching me with one arm around my waist and the other swiping across my desk, sending binders, papers, folders, pens, a tape dispenser, a stapler, two legal pads and a box of paper clips flying to the floor. “Don’t say a fucking word, McKayla. Just don’t.”
Pushing one of his rock hard thighs in between my legs, he bends me back onto my desk and settles against me, raising both hands now to cup my face. My heart is on the verge of exploding in my chest, and only two things fill my mind.
First, please, please, please kiss me, Matt.
Second, please, please, please don’t let me have a heart attack before he does.
I’m saved on both concerns as Matt pours lust, desire, anger, and passion into a kiss that causes my toes to curl against the flip-flops, which are barely clinging to my feet after I was practically thrown onto my desk.
My tongue is shy at first, but it only takes Matt one tiny rock of his hips against mine, and then it’s on.
We kiss like we never kissed on that one night we spent together. It is filled with not only yearning, but with a bit of frustration and shame that we have no control over our actions.
This is wrong… we both know it.
Yet he hums with approval when I reach my hand down between us and give him a light stroke, and I practically convulse when one of his hands cup my breast.
For a brief moment, Matt seems to come to his senses and stills against me. He rises up from my mouth and stares at me deeply, worry creasing his forehead. He even curses just the way I’ve come to appreciate about him. “Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.”
“We don’t have to—” I start to say, but he growls at me so I snap my mouth shut.
He stares at me for just a moment more, and then he abruptly stands up. I think it’s over, that reality has reappeared, and disappointment fills me.
That lasts just a flicker of a moment because fantasy land returns as Matt starts stripping me of my clothes.
In less than fifteen seconds, he has me completely naked and splayed out on my desk in front of him. He looks down at me, eyes roaming, and he actually licks his lips like he’s getting ready to gorge himself.
Yes, I’m ringing the dinner bell… bring it on.
I expect Matt to undo his pants and mount up, but he surprises me when he pulls one of my chairs closer to the desk and sits down. He takes my legs, spreads them outward, and tugs me to the edge of the desk, throwing said legs rather haphazardly over his shoulders.
Pleasure and thrills blanket my body as I realize that he’s settling in to do me right. His face dives down, and I actually grunt… yes, grunt… at first contact. I then bite down hard on my tongue so I’m not screaming the rafters down.
I’m delirious with pleasure as Matt works my body to his liking. He uses touch and sound to give me the ultimate experience. Touch meaning fingers and tongue, and yes, even his chin, which has me bucking off the desk. Sound meaning the dirty, dirty things he whispers to me as he causes a rollercoaster of an orgasm to go rushing up my spine. I have to slap my hand over my mouth not to scream, and Matt looks up at me with pure male satisfaction.
It took him just under two minutes to send me to Heaven.

   He’s just that fucking good.

Question of the week
Bookselling Time: Go to your biggest bookcases. Go to the second shelf from the top and pick out the sixth book from the left. Handsell that book to us - even if you haven’t read it or if you hated it. (if you don’t have bookcases, done have six books on one shelf, etc, pick a book at random).

The book that I drew is going to be super easy to sell. I ended up picking Cinder by Marissa Meyer!

This is by far one of my favorite reads. I LOVE re-tellings of classic stories. This series is probably one of the best I have ever read in that aspect. A hint of the classic while being totally unique. It is a very unique twist on the story we all know as Cinderella. It takes place in a world very different from ours. Where humans and cyborgs live together. Where a virus is spreading and killing people. The country is in term oil and the answers could lie with a lowly cyborg who needs a new leg. Could this girl be the answer to everything? Could she be just what the Prince need? Pick up your copy and find out!

Lightpoints by Peter Kassan

Goodreads Summary:
What if you suddenly discovered you had a sense-and powers-that almost no one else in the world did? When Amanda Lindner Nichols, a 24-year-old graphic artist living with her husband in Queens, New York, is revived from a near-death experience, she discovers she perceives everyone around her as points of light-but not with her eyes. She soon learns she can not only perceive the life energy of others, but she can give and take it. With the help of others like her, she brings her husband Chris to the brink of death and back to bestow on him the same remarkable faculty, and they're the happiest they've been. But not for long. All over the world, people who've been revived from their own near-death experience at just the right moment discover themselves with these same unusual powers. They find ways to use them-some for good and some for evil. When Amanda and Chris encounter a ruthless group of gangsters with the same faculty, tragedy follows-and Amanda faces the greatest challenge of her life.

My Review:
We get to meet quite a few characters in this book. It mostly focus's on Amanda and her husband Chris I have always been fascinated by near-death experiences. Working in healthcare I have heard a few of these stories myself. So I was instantly drawn to this book. After a near-death experience herself, Amanda, starts to realize that she has an interesting gift. She can sense if you will, peoples light or their life energy. She soon learns she can give it and take it. As you can imagine, this gift could be used for good and evil. Amanda soon learns that she is not alone in this. Other people also have this gift. Unfortunately for Amanda and Chris things take a turn for the dangerous. Can they survive this? Will they be able to live with their gifts?

I thought Amanda and Chris were a pretty average couple. Not perfect but, they worked. After Amanda realized her gift there was a bit of disconnect with them. The support group was a good idea. After such a traumatic experience I don't blame her for seeking help. I mean getting stabbed and nearly dying is enough to make anyone lose it. It is at this group that she meets others who also see these "lightpoints". She also learns of others who use this power for evil things.

Betrayal, murder, and secrets. Lightpoints will take you on a mysterious and action packed ride. I found it very fresh and new with what is out there. I was on the edge of my seat for a good portion of it. Like I said this kind of thing interests me just because of the experiences that I have heard of. This was a fun and fast read and I would definitely recommend it!

Bitter Sweet Love by Jennifer Armentrout

Goodreads Summary:
In a sizzling prequel novella to her new series THE DARK ELEMENTS, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout draws readers into the extraordinary, irresistible world of Wardens and demons.

Dez wasn't just Jasmine's crush. A gargoyle Warden like Jas, he helped her come to terms with her destiny—fending off demons and maintaining balance between good and evil. He was her everything...right until the moment he disappeared without a trace. It didn't help that Jas's father had just announced that she and Dez would one day be mated. Hard not to take that personally.

And now he's back, three years older, ten times hotter, ready to pick up exactly where they left off. But Jas isn't taking that risk again. Dez has seven days to meet all her conditions and earn back her trust. Seven days filled with terrifying danger and sweet temptation. Seven days to win her heart—or shatter it all over again...

My Review:
I am even more excited for this series after reading this one! I mean it's about gargoyle's!!! Jas and Dez's story is one of both heartache and love. They were together for as long as they can remember but, after Jas's father announces he wishes them to be mated Dez dissappears. This leaves Jas heartbroken. When he shows up 3 years later and announces he wishes to mate with Jas, she is a little skittish. Where has he been? Why did he leave? How can they just start where they left off?

Jas is super spunky and isn't going to just give in to Dez. She gets 7 days to decide if she wants him or not and she's going to have some fun with it. She has a list of conditions that leads them on a dangerous adventure. So much action was packed into this quick novella. We got introduced to some other awesome characters too. Layla and Zayne are going to be very interesting to read about in White Hot Kiss. We get a sneak peak at the end of Bitter Sweet Love!

The romance between Dez and Jas is scorching hot. I mean you could cut the sexual tension with a knife. Deep down Jas always loved Dez and I think she wanted him. These two are perfect for each other. I am hoping we get to see more of these two!!

I can't wait for White Hot Kiss! I will be pre-ordering it because I loved this one so much.

ARC of The Arrangement #12 by H.M. Ward

Goodreads Summary:
***Warning Sexual Content***

There is so much blood that I can't think. The night goes from bliss to chaos in a matter of moments. As the truth begins to unravel, it's clear that I can't trust anyone, except Sean Ferro. The same man that threatens to destroy me could also be my salvation--and I could be his.

My Review:
Holy Hotness!! This volume starts up as soon as 11 left off. We do get to find out who is dead on Sean's hotel room floor. This one is a crazy rollercoaster ride where we get to see all of our favorite characters. Peter, Sidney, Tristan, John, and Brian make an appearance! LOVED IT!! The way all these novella's intertwine is awesome. After Avery finally gets away from the hotel and makes it to the strip club where Sean wants to meet her, she gets a minute to relax and try to pull herself together. She has had a traumatic day. She gets time with Sidney and none other then Trystan Scott. I need his book like now. I'm going to lose it...seriously. We learn a lot of interesting things about our characters and what is going on. Avery's life is in danger. Someone wants her dead. Sean can only think of one way to help her.....Take her away.

There are some seriously sexy scenes here. Like, move over Christen Grey and welcome Sean Ferro kind of hot. I'm sure people will wine about it but, I think it works for these characters. Avery isn't the little innocent person she used to be. And lets face it, Sean is not a vanilla type guy. Probably as opposite as you could get of that. My opinion, HELL YEA keep it coming! Anyway, there is still love and mushy stuff too so don't fret.

Once again we are left with one crazy cliffhanger. I am always sad to see these end because I am dying for the next one. This is a fan driven series, if we want more the author gives us more which is awesome! Keep em' comin!

Blue Lines by Toni Aleo Release Day Blitz!!!!!

Happy Release Day!

Blue Lines by Toni Aleo is officially out today!!!
See my review of Blue Lines in the post right before this one!

Opposites do more than just attract in Toni Aleo’s latest Nashville Assassins novel about a very bad boy and the good girl he can’t resist.

The instant Piper Allen sees Erik Titov, she wants him—wants his rock-hard body, sure, but the strength and mystery that lies behind that superstar hockey jock demeanor, too. So when he sidles up to her at a bar and slinks his arm around her waist, she’s lost. What follows is the wildest night of her life . . . followed by inevitable heartbreak the next morning. And then, a few weeks later, a very big surprise: two blue lines on a pregnancy test.

Only a check to the head could make Erik fall for a nice girl like Piper. But since their crazy-sexy night together, he’s been trying to forget about her alluring body by falling into bed with every woman in Nashville, and it’s not working. So when Piper shows up at his house with a baby-bomb to drop, it doesn’t take much for Erik to suggest the nuclear option: marriage. While it’s supposed to be all for show, the second they say “I do,” the ice between them starts to melt into sizzling steam.

Teaser

Someone was shaking her.

Opening one eye, she peeked out of the covers to see Erik grinning at her. Making a disgruntled noise, Piper covered her face and muttered, “Go away.”

His chuckles filled the room as he wiggled his way under the blanket. His hands were warm against her exposed skin as he pulled her close to run his nose along hers. “Good morning.”

“I’m sleeping,” she muttered again as he kissed her nose.

“Well excuse me for being rude but I want to kiss the birthday girl.”

She opened one eye again, and set him with a look. “I have morning breath.”

“I don’t care, now kiss me,” he said against her lips. She didn’t even have time to smile or say no, he smothered her mouth with his own. She had to admit, it was a great way to be woken up. As he pulled back, Piper opened her eyes and smiled sweetly at him. His eyes were bright and his mouth was inches from hers as he looked deep into her eyes. “Happy birthday.”

She snuggled closer to him. “Thank you.”

“Do you want to get up or am I going to have to drag you out of this bed?”

“Why on earth would you do that?” she asked in mock horror.

He laughed. “Because Stanley and I made you breakfast and you have gifts.”

Piper thought for a moment before saying, “I do like food and presents.”

“I thought so. Why don’t you crawl out of bed, and come on,” he suggested as he kicked the blankets off them.

“Uggh,” she complained as she sat up, looking around the room. “I look a hot mess. I don’t want to do birthday stuff, Erik, I suck, I know.”

“I think you are beautiful, even when you are bitchy,” he said with a grin on his face, “Now come on.”

My Review:
Prepare yourselves for this one. Start it when you have time to finish it in one sitting. I was sucked into the Assassin’s world once again with Blue Lines. I was so ready for Erik and Pipers story. Piper is pregnant and the baby is Erik Titov’s. Erik never wanted a wife or a baby. He was content with living life by partying and hooking up with females. So he was pretty shocked with Piper came to him and told him about the baby. He’s already with trouble with Ellie, the team owner, for his bad press and now this. He might lose his spot on the team because of this. Piper is scared and doesn’t want to do this alone but, she will if she has to. I can tell you this. I have never been more frustrated with a character. Erik made me so angry and happy at the same time and it was hard to handle!! The way he does things and the things he says sometimes….just UGH! His childhood plays a huge role in why he is like this. So don’t give up on him! Will Erik be able to be the man and father Piper wants him to be? Could he ever really love her or will his insecurities ruin them?

Piper Allen is probably my new favorite female character in this series. She is going through so much yet she manages to be insanely strong. She puts up with a lot of Erik’s crap while being pregnant. She has so much faith in him and is always in his corner. Erik doesn’t understand how she does that. How can she love him like that? She is so full of girl power! In particular when she goes nuts and destroys some electronics with a hockey stick I was all like hell yea! She knew what she wanted and she saw something in Erik that he didn’t even see. She is definitely his undoing that’s for sure.

Erik is a broken man. His childhood has shaped him into the man he thinks he should be. That is what kind of ruins him. He will never love a woman so much like his father did. So much that it would destroy him if she left. He doesn’t let himself care. So when he gets closer to Piper he pushes those feelings way down. Lucky for him, Piper is a strong woman and won’t take his crap. She calls him out. Without her I don’t think he could ever change. He really is soft inside. There were times when I wanted to strangle him and times when I cried for him.

I have to throw this in because Tate and Audrey’s wedding vows were so beautiful that I cried like a baby. I think I will always love Tate! I meant their wedding was insanely eventful!

This series just keeps getting better and better with each book. I have loved each book, all amazing stories. Toni Aleo has a gift for writing and I hope we will get more from the Assassins!!

Blurb

One lost love.
One lost best friend.
One hot soul reaper.

Straight out of the psyche ward, Cora just wants her life to be normal. She doesn’t want to see souls or the reapers collecting them. The love of her life, the guy she’s loved from a distance for years, has moved away without saying goodbye. So yes, she’s nursing a serious heartbreak. It’s no wonder love is the last thing on her mind when Echo storms into her life.

The chemistry between them is mind-blowing. The connection defies logic. It doesn’t help that Echo is the poster boy for everything she hates in a guy—hot, beautiful, and cocky. A general pain-in-the-butt. Being around him makes her feel more alive than she’s ever felt before. But more important, the souls leave her alone when he is around.

Echo is perfect for her. Echo might even be her soul-mate. There is only one problem. Echo is a freaking soul reaper. A Grimnir. The very beings she wants out of her life. Maybe normal is overrated because Cora wants it all. Answers. Love. A life. You see, once you fall for a Grimnir, your life will never be the same again.

Excerpt

“You, doll-face. Why are you having a shitty day?”

I glared ahead. “Because you are screwing with my head. How come you keep saying things I don’t remember?”

“I told you. The Norns put a whammy on you.”

“Norns?”

“Deities of destiny. Mean, bitter hags. They control the destiny of all beings—Mortals, Immortals, even the gods. Interestingly, I just found out why they targeted you and erased your memories.”

“Why?” Not that I believed his rambling.

“Say please.”

I was tempted to ignore him, but something weird had happened to me and I wanted answers. I eased the car into a parking spot across from my school, switched off the engine, and turned to look at Echo. He was dressed in all leather again today. I realized that what I’d assumed was a leather shirt was actually a vest of some kind. Once again, he wore fingerless gloves and silver Gothic rings with weird markings.

“Please,” I said through clenched teeth.

He touched his lips. “I want a kiss, too.”

I narrowed my eyes. “Why are you such a tool all the time? You think this is fun for me? Not remembering things? Waking up one morning and seeing souls? Ending up in a psych ward, where they pumped me full of drugs, then coming home only to be met by you, a reaper?”

“Grimnir,” he corrected then frowned. “Are those the fake memories the Norns gave you? Psych ward? That’s just wrong.”

“I was in a psych ward,” I snapped.

He raised his hands. “Okay. No need to be snippy.”

“I’m not—”

He covered my mouth then smirked when I bit his hand. I bore down until I tasted blood. He didn’t even wince. His grin broadened instead.

“Drink my blood, doll-face. Bond with me for eternity.”

The thought was scary. I pushed his hand away and wiped my mouth. “Ew. Can your blood do that?”

He laughed.

“Will you be serious for even a second?” I asked.

“Don’t you want to be mine forever?”

“Ew, no.” I made a face. “I don’t even like you.”

My Review
I was worried when this book wan't being told from Raine's POV but, I was blown away by Cora's. There is no way this part of the story could have been told by anyone else. I absolutely loved it. Cora had been through a lot and it was great to finally learn what happened with her. She is confused when she gets from the mental health hospital. Apparently she has has only been gone a week to everyone in town. This has her worried. Things don't get any better when Echo slams into the picture. I have to say his entrance is probably the hottest I have ever read! Echo doesn't understand how she doesn't know him. This puts Cora into more of a tail spin and she has to find out what is going on. Will she get the answers she seeks? Who is this gorgeous stranger who is intent on kissing her all the time?

We still get to see our favorite characters too! Raine, Eirik, Torin, and Andris are all still very much a part of the story. It takes a while for Cora to be ok with Raine again. Considering she never came to see her or call her when she was away. This is when Cora finally finds out what is going on. Someone has been wearing Cora's face and pretending to be her. She was so good at it in fact that no one noticed. Unfortunately, Cora finds this out a little late in the game with Echo and has fallen for him. He doesn't take the information well either. This leaves Cora even more heartbroken then when she found out Eirik left.

Echo is pretty much the hot reaper who enjoys...physical relationships. He collects souls for Hel. He had a relationship with the fake Cora and doesn't know it't not her when the real Cora gets home. He seems pretty into her and Cora kind of likes it. Things get pretty hot and heavy between these guys. But, after they find out whats happening everything changes. Echo can't have her and thinks its bet to stay away. Cora is upset about this and I would be too. She really likes him and is finally over Eirik only to be let down again. What Cora doesn't know is that she is in danger because of what her impostor was up to. Will she ever find love or is she destined to be alone? Will she survive what is coming for her?

I liked Cora much more then I though I was going to. She is an amazing character who has been through a lot and has to work through it. The story flowed so well with the other books, Walters didn't miss a beat. This has been one of my favorite series of this year and I can't wait to see what is going to happen next!
