Origin by Jennifer Armentrout

Goodreads Summary:
Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

My Review:
I'm not going to lie. I was terrified to start this book because I knew big stuff would happen and I would have to wait for the next book. It stared at me next to my bed for days. I finally gave in to Daemon's stare. I couldn't put it down. I was instantly sucked back into Katy and Daemon's world. Katy was taken and Daemon trying to get her back. The book goes between Katy and Daemon's POV, which I loved! I loved getting into Daemon's head. Katy is in the Daedalus facility and being forced into doing some pretty terrible things. She is also being tortured in a way. Daedalus tries pretty hard to make Katy believe some interesting things about the Luxen and Daemon. She is drained from everything they make her do. While Daemon on the other hand willing gives into Daedalus to be with Katy again. I felt like it's no longer fun and games anymore. Serious events happen that will change everyone's lives. Nothing will ever be the same now.

Katy is kind of broken in this book. The emotional and physical things she has to go through are pretty exhausting. I have a feeling she will forever be changed now. She has to give up her life. But, Daemon and Katy will do anything for each other. Even if it means putting the human and Luxen race at risk. We also find out some interesting reproduction news! That's all I'm saying, make your own conclusions. We definitly get to see how strong Katy and Daemon's love for each other is. A whole new side to Daemon. They are perfect for each other. Their lives change, in both good and bad ways.

Daemon is still the super hot, insanely powerful Luxen he was before. He will get to Katy no matter what happens. He will save her. Even if it means sacrificing himself. He goes to great lengths to get to her. He also is forced to do/see things that he should never have to. If you thought the Luxen were kind of scary, wait to you mean an Origin. I love Daemon he is a great character to read about. He is definetly the knight on a the white horse!

I am in love with this series. I can not wait for the next books. Sadly it will be a while before it's out. I love diving into this world that Armentrout has so graciously created for us. The end of this book is INSANE! So many things happen that I just....I have no words to describe it. I will be anxiously the next installment.

EXCERPT FROM OFF CHANCE

After silently watching for a few minutes, I ask, “Okay, here’s a question for you... what’s that yellow line on the field?”
Fil doesn’t answer me so I poke her in the ribs. “Teach me, Yoda.”
She looks at me with frustration and then looks back at the TV. “That splits the field in half.”
“Liar,” I hear from the doorway and I turn to see Flynn there with a plate of pie in his hand.
Fil turns around and looks guilty for just a second, then her face splits into a grin. “Busted.”
“Wait... that line doesn’t split the field in half?” I ask, because that made damn good sense to me.
Chuckling, Flynn walks in and comes over to the couch. “Scoot down,” he says.

I try to move to the left, but Fil is ignoring me in favor of the football game. I jab her in the ribs again, she moves over a quarter of an inch, and I move along with her. It gives enough room for Flynn to jam his body in between the end of the couch and me, and the heat of his leg against mine sends my pulse dancing.
He takes the last bite of pie and sets the plate down on the coffee table. After he swallows, he says, “Okay... the yellow line represents the first down marker. You do understand the concept of downs, right?”
“Sort of,” I tell him. “Not really. And what’s the blue line?”
“That’s the line of scrimmage,” Flynn says and, before he can explain further, Fil lets out a curse. “I can’t believe he got sacked. The offensive line sucks.”
“What’s a sack?” I ask.
Flynn chuckles. “Slow down there, Speedy. One question at a time.”
He takes my hand and turns it palm up. “Here’s the easiest way to understand it. See these two lines running parallel on your palm?”
I glance down and his fingertip traces two of my lifelines, which do indeed run exactly parallel across my hand. The feel of his skin against mine causes me to shiver slightly and I’m mesmerized by the movement.
“Yeah,” I say and it feels like it comes out in a croak.
“So, this line right here is the line of scrimmage. It’s where the offensive line starts and the quarterback will be roughly in the middle of the line.” Flynn traces the line of scrimmage on my palm and then taps the area where the quarterback would stand.
“And this here,” he says, as he runs his finger across the other line. “This is the first down line. This is the distance, which is ten yards, that the offensive line has to get the ball to be able to advance further. They have four tries to get there... and those are called downs.”
I want to know more, not because I give a shit about football but because I want Flynn to keep holding my hand and tracking patterns on my skin. Which is decidedly not within the purview of a regular friendship.
“And a sack?” I remind him.
He pushes his index finger into my palm and holds it there. “When the quarterback starts the play at the line of scrimmage, he will most times step backward to get some distance from the defensive players that are coming toward him. If at any time they get him behind this line,” and here he pauses to drag his finger across my palm, “that is called a sack. Understand?”
“Yes,” I say but really, no. I don’t remember a damn thing he just told me and could care less. I am, though, trying to think of other questions to ask so he can teach me more palm football.

FACTS ABOUT OFF CHANCE

Most importantly, this was supposed to be the last book in the Off Series but I’ve had such an         outpouring of requests to keep writing… I’m happy to report that this is NOT the last book.           There will be others, but after I get a few other projects complete!
Not to give away a spoiler, but there is a huge scene in the book involving Emily and Nix               from Off Limits and it’s based almost exactly off a very important moment in my personal             life.
Fire fighters are hot! It’s a fact!
There is a really cute, fuzzy and rambunctious dog in this book named, Capone! He’s based           off of my own puppy goodness… my Bernese Mountain Dog, Atticus.
I sobbed like a baby when I finished writing the prologue. Warning: It might make you cry,             too.
You will get really good updates in this book on all of the past Off characters… Ryan, Danny,         Emily, Nix, Linc, Ever, Renner and Cillian!

Each book in the Off Series can be read as a standalone.

Book Trailer

My Review

"Get ready for an action packed suspenseful ride through this story. Mythology at its best and electric characters. This one will leave you begging for more!"

Greek Mythology is probably my favorite kind of mythology. So this book was perfect for me! Skylar is your average girl who is going to spend the summer with her favorite cousin Kayla and her mom. She is doing normal things like working at her aunts diner and hanging out with Kayla. They end up getting invited to a party buy some hunky guys by the name of Mason and Nick Grand! It’s a party on the beach which makes Skylar nervous. She hates the water.  Kayla ends up going late night swimming with Nick and Skylar decides to stay on the beach. However, she is lured into the water by an unknown force. After nearly drowning and being rescued by a mystery guy thing and will never be the same. After meeting Mason and Nick their lives will never be the same. Strange things start to happen and no one is what they seem.

Skylar is introduced rather harshly to a world she never saw before, a world of Gods, Demigods, and creatures from nightmares. Evil lurks at every turn to try to take Skylar. Skylar does everything she can to keep Kayla safe and somewhat in the dark about what’s going on. Let’s be honest she was pretty distracted by Nick haha. Skylar has a lot to deal with. Her world has completely changed. What is she? She’s obviously more than human. She also has feelings for Mason but, he is so cold at times. He doesn’t want to hurt her. Will Skylar ever have a normal life again? What is she destined to be?

Despite the fact that Mason is cold sometimes I still really like him. He does his best to explain things to Skylar. He also protects her. He has his own powers that are awesome! He does have his sweet and romantic moments too. I really liked him and Nick the most out of the brothers. I was hoping he would let his walls down and let Skylar in. They were so cute together!

I loved this story. There were so many twists and turns that I was interested throughout the book. There were no dull moments. I can’t wait to find out what will happen next for these guys!

TEASER!!
“You’re wet. You should take off your clothes.”
What a way to avoid a question! Skylar blinked her eyes in disbelief. Did she hear him correctly? “Excuse me?” Not wanting to assume he was really asking her to strip off her clothes, she didn’t move a muscle, but the way his piercing eyes laid on her, she might as well have already been naked. Then she inwardly gasped when he started to unbutton his shirt. Her eyes shot to the floor, then back to him, and then to the floor, wondering what she was supposed to do in this awkward moment.
“Here. Go change in the restroom. You don’t want to catch a cold.” He placed his shirt in front of her.
She looked up to see him shirtless for the very first time. With all the right curves and tightness, he looked like a statue of a god. He was beautiful and perfectly toned, with satin-like skin, which looked like it would be smooth to the touch. And there was a small tattoo shaped like a lightning bolt on his upper right arm, toward his shoulder. Way too sexy!
As warmth flushed her face, she tried not to stare, but there was no way around it. “Umm…you won’t have a shirt,” Skylar said, thinking that was the most idiotic thing she had said so far, but she couldn’t think when he was half-naked in front of her.
“I’m not cold, but you will be.”
Mason was right. Skylar didn’t realize she was shivering until she placed her hand out to take his shirt. The adrenaline from the initial shock had kept her warm, and now it was wearing away. The blasting air conditioner didn’t help either. “Thanks.”
Just as she pivoted right toward the restroom, even though she was deathly scared to go back, Mason gripped her arm. “Wait. Don’t go in there without me.”
His sudden protectiveness surprised Skylar, but then again, he had saved her.

Goodreads Summary (From Amazon for $4.99!!!!):
Marriage can be a real killer.

One of the most critically acclaimed suspense writers of our time, New York Times bestseller Gillian Flynn takes that statement to its darkest place in this unputdownable masterpiece about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong. The Chicago Tribune proclaimed that her work "draws you in and keeps you reading with the force of a pure but nasty addiction." Gone Girl's toxic mix of sharp-edged wit and deliciously chilling prose creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife's head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media--as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents--the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter--but is he really a killer?

As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn't do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

With her razor-sharp writing and trademark psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.

Man Made Boy by Jon Skovron

Goodreads Summary:
Love can be a real monster.

Sixteen-year-old Boy’s never left home. When you’re the son of Frankenstein’s monster and the Bride, it’s tough to go out in public, unless you want to draw the attention of a torch-wielding mob. And since Boy and his family live in a secret enclave of monsters hidden under Times Square, it’s important they maintain a low profile.

Boy’s only interactions with the world are through the Internet, where he’s a hacker extraordinaire who can hide his hulking body and stitched-together face behind a layer of code. When conflict erupts at home, Boy runs away and embarks on a cross-country road trip with the granddaughters of Jekyll and Hyde, who introduce him to malls and diners, love and heartbreak. But no matter how far Boy runs, he can’t escape his demons—both literal and figurative—until he faces his family once more.

This hilarious, romantic, and wildly imaginative tale redefines what it means to be a monster—and a man.

My Review:
I might be a terrible paranormal reader. I have never read/watched anything about Frankenstein and his monster he created. I honestly had no idea how the original story went. This version however, I really liked! I liked that it was about the Monster's son Boy. His Mom, Bride, also made an appearance. Boy does not have a normal life. He lives with his parents at The Show. Where a lot of other creatures live. He does not venture out to the human world. Life at The Show isn't all its cracked up to be. Boy has the urge to go out into the world and see what it's like. He can almost pass for human right? He is a computer hacker who has a lot of interaction with other people on the computer but, not really in real life. He has even created something, a virus if you will. He has a crush on a Trowe girl, jut like your average teen boy. He chance to leave finally comes and he takes it. He likes his first trip out. After an argument at home he decides to run away and live among the humans. Will Boy survive in the real world? Will it be everything he imagined? Can he live as a human?

Boy is a very interesting character. He is a teenage boy who is trying to be good at something, he has a crush, and he's trying to make his way in world he doesn't know much about. He is basically your average teen guy except he's kind of a robot human with skin sutured on him. So apart from that. As he quickly learns it is not that easy to live in New York with out any identification. After some unfortunate events he ends up being rescued by a were wolf from his crazy Trowe girlfriend and his creation. This is where he meets Jekyll and Hyde's relative. A girl, Claire and Sophie. He goes on a road trip with them to another group of creatures to try to find safety from his creature and their brothers. It is a crazy ride. Will they survive each other and the other creatures they encounter?

I loved Claire and Sophie. They were were great! I can't imagine sharing a body like that. Boy quickly develops feelings for both girls. Which, actually works out pretty well if you ask me. They are all kind of perfect for each other. It will be interesting to see where their relationship goes. Especially with how it ended.

In the end, this is a coming of age story for Boy. He learns the importance of family and friends. That you will do anything for them. It should be interesting to see how things go with Boy going to college! It was a fun read. So full of action and different creatures. I really liked it! I will be looking forward to the next installment.

Unchained by J. Lynn (Jennifer Armentrout)

Goodreads Summary:
Between the pissed off creatures that want demon-hunter Lily Marks dead and the fallen angel who just...wants her, Lily is about ready to trade in forever for a comfy job in a cubicle farm.

The fact that she and Julian are civil to one another is enough to have her thrown out of the Sanctuary, but she can't shake her not-so-angelic stalker or how he brings her dangerously close to ecstasy.

Her forbidden relationship with Julian provides the perfect fuel for suspicion when a traitor is discovered to be working within the Sanctuary. Lily quickly finds herself hunted by well, everyone.

Her only hope is to discover the real traitor before she loses everything--and she'll need Julian's help. That is, if Julian is really there to help her...and not destroy her.

Yeah, being a Nephilim isn't everything it's cracked up to be.

My Review:
Unchained was full of action and romance. I was super excited when this book came out because I have been anxiously waiting for it. Lily Marks is a pretty bad ass nephilim. Being the offspring of a Fallen angel and a human is not as easy as you might think. She is under Contract with the Sanctuary and has dedicated her life to fighting the Fallen, deadheads, and minions. She has had her run ins with death and is not being forced to train the new kid, Michael. Not everyone knows that she is also having a forbidden relationship with Julian, a Fallen. This is a major no no when you are a Nephilim. It puts on their radar for sure, especially when someone is slipping information to the Fallen. Will Lily give up everything for Julian? Will they figure out who is betraying them?

I really liked Michael. The book kind of went back and forth between him and Lily's point of view. He was a cop who was attacked and rescued by Lily. He is special but, not sure why. He starts his training way later in life then they usually do. He picks it up pretty quickly. Him and Lily get along really well. I liked Luke and Nate too. They were like Lily's family. I believe she truly loves them. Will she be able to keep them safe?

Lily and Julian had a super hot relationship. Julian had saved Lily's life more then once. She tried to fight her feelings for him because she knew he was dangerous. There is something about the dark "bad guy" that is just sexy. The romance between these two is...well...flaming hot. They are prefect for each other. Can Lily trust Julian or is he just manipulating her? Is there any hope for them?

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the paranormal aspect. Lily is a very likable character. I am excited to see where this story goes. There are a lot of things that need to be worked out!
