15 Day Blogger Challenge- Day 7

So I came across this on some other blogs today and was like "I am so doing this!" The 15 Day Book Blogging Challenge was created by April at Good Books, Good Wine. This was a super creative idea and I fully intend to have fun with it! Here is the link to her Day 1 post: Day 1 Post Link

Talk about your blogging quirks.
  • I try to do numerous posts a week. Sometimes however  I don't have enough time to get a lot of reading done. So there's that.
  • I always post new posts at 2 am. That way the emails go out to my subscribers by afternoon.  Any yes, I do subscribe to my own blog so I know when emails go out.
  • I have a pretty straight forward set up for my reviews. I start with  a quick overview, then talk about the secondary characters, then the love interests, and then the conclusion.
  • I try not to use bad words when I do reviews. There are times when I just cant help it though. Sometimes I am so worked up I have to do it. I review a lot of YA so I try not to go crazy.
  • I always do reviews right after I finish a book. That way I don't forget anything I want to say. I bookmark stuff on my Kindle to use or quote in my reviews.
  • I love using those moving picture things in my posts. I'm sure they have an actual name but, I don't know what it is. I find them hilarious!
  • I don't read books that don't interest me. There have only been a handful of books I have given negative reviews or flat out did not finish. I have far to many books that I want to read to waste time reading stuff I don't want to read.

From the International Bestselling Author of the Tempest series

A Mature YA contemporary set in the tough world of Elite Gymnastics. Grief, love and pursuing dreams are at the forefront of this emotionally powerful coming-of-age story.

Seventeen year old Karen Campbell has just lost both her parents in a tragic car accident. Grief stricken and alone, her gymnastics coach opens his home to Karen, providing her a place to live while she continues to train, working toward a spot on the world championship team.

Coach Bentley’s only child, seventeen year old Jordan is good-looking and charming enough to scare away a girl like Karen—someone who has spent ten times more hours on balance beams and uneven bars than talking or even thinking about boys. But the two teens share a special connection almost immediately. It turns out Jordan has a tragic past of his own, grief buried for years.

As Karen’s gymnastics career soars, her nightmares and visions of the horrible accident grow in strength. She can only avoid facing her grief for so long before it begins to surface and ultimately spin out of control in a very dangerous way. Can discovering love and lust (simultaneously) help with the grieving process or will it only provide a temporary distraction while waiting for reality to hit full force.

Describe how you shop for books.
  • I do most of my shopping online at the Amazon Kindle store. I always look at the deals and what's free. I know, I like bargains, what can I say. I love going to Barnes and Noble. I usually go to get new books or look at sales. The books series that I already have as physical books I continue to buy in physical books. If books have awesome covers I like to buy the physical books too :)

Recommend a tear jerker.

  • Ok, I feel like I need to start off this one with....I CRY OVER EVERYTHING. In books that is. It could be a happy ending, a baby being born, someone dying, a great end to a series, kind words...ANYTHING! For sure, I cried my eyes out during three specific books. The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks (obviously), Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult, and My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. The movie version of My Sister's Keeper was not as good as the book! They totally changed the ending completely!! Anyway, both of those authors have the ability to describe in detail how someone feels when they are suffering and broken. Just perfect and terribly heartbreaking to read. Seriously, have a couple boxes of Kleenex for them.
  • I also cried like a baby at the end of Clockwork Princess. It was a bitter sweet ending and I couldn't help myself.

First Position by Prescott Lane

Goodreads Summary:
Emory faces life’s challenges at the one place that’s never failed her, the ballet barre. But even the barre can’t steady her when fate brings her face-to-face with her old college flame, Mason, who’s hoping to return to the NFL after a career-threatening injury. Before they can surrender to their sexual desires and find salvation in each other’s arms, they need to come to terms with their past. Mason must confront the demons that have set him on a path of self-destruction, while Emory must decide whether to keep her painful secrets locked away, or expose them and risk losing the love of her life. But nothing can prepare Mason for what Emory has kept hidden, or the possibility that he himself may be to blame for the very secrets she keeps – and why they continue to haunt her.

My Review:
I was contacted by the author to review this book in exchange for an honest review. Once I started reading this one I had a hard time putting it down. First Position is a story about a second chance at true love. It doesn't always work out the first time. That is what happened to Emory and Mason. This book brought together all the things that I love. Sports, love, and super hot romance. Emory and Mason happen to bump into each other at a bar. This causes the spark to reignite between them. Their relationship in college did not end well and neither of them have really recovered. There are a lot of insecurities and broken hearts to get over before they can really have a relationship. Will the secrets they are both keeping ruin their relationship? Will they be able to get over their insecurities and move on? Will Emory be able to tell Mason her secret?

I love the other characters in the book. Wesley is amazing. He is such a good friend to Emory. He was there for her since the day they met. Through some truly terrible times when Mason wasn't there. Oh yea, he's gay so not a romantic threat. His boyfriend Tomas is an amazing cook and that's a good thing considering how much Emory likes food. Steven, Mason's brother, is great too. He is Mason's manager and I love when he nags on Mason! Olivia, Steven's wife, is hilarious. She is a loud/speak your mind type. She is a great comic relief.

Mason is an NFL quarterback recovering from a shoulder injury. It was the type that may end his career so he is now looking for a team that will sign him. He doesn't admit it right away but, he never stopped loving Emory. He always regretted the way things ended between them. I am glad he finally admits it because it was a crap thing he did to her. He makes up for it though. His secrets have a way of getting out and I was mad at the way Emory reacted. Considering her secret was HUGE! She was being a tad hypocritical. These two are perfect for each other despite all that. Their love is true and heartbreaking at the same time. I loved their story. It seems that true love transcends time.

This was an amazing love story. It had its ups and downs but, was great. I had some trouble sometimes figuring out who was taking or who's thoughts I was reading but, other then that it was a great story. I am so glad the author reached out to me!

What's the last book you flung across the room?

  • Well, I do almost all of my reading on my Kindle and I love it to much to throw it or drop it or hug it to tight. If I had been reading books instead of on my Kindle I would have to say The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa. Now hold on, it's not because it was bad! It's because of the giant cliffhanger ending. I cried a the end and then it ended like that!!! Seriously, I was mad for like 2 days. I frequently yell and get mad at TV shows when they end like that too....Game of Thrones!!!

Title: Into The Deep
Author: Samantha Young
Series Number: 1
Release Date: August 13, 2013

Goodreads Summary:
Live young. Live hard. Love deep.

Charley Redford was just an ordinary girl until Jake Caplin moved to her small town in Indiana and convinced her she was extraordinary. Almost from day one Jake pulled Charley into the deep and promised he was right there with her. But when a tragic incident darkened Jake’s life he waded out into the shallows and left Charley behind.

Almost four years later Charley thinks she’s moved on. That is until she takes a study year abroad in Edinburgh and bumps into none other than Jake Caplin at a party with his new girlfriend. The bad-boy-turned-good attempts to convince Charley to forgive him, and as her best friend starts spending time with Jake’s, Charley calls a truce, only to find herself tumbling back into a friendship with him.

As they grow closer, the spark between them flares and begins playing havoc with their lives and relationships. When jealousy and longing rear their destructive heads, Charley and Jake struggle to come to grips with what they mean to one another.

And even if they work it out, there is no guarantee Charley will ever trust Jake to lead her back into the deep…

My Thoughts:
I loooove this author. Her books are awesome and I will read anything she writes. The cover is great too. I love romance and this one sounds like it's going to be great. Have you read anything by this author?

Lullaby (Watersong #2) by Amanda Hocking

Goodreads Summary:
Don't miss the next chapter of Watersong, a bold new series that will enchant you, entrance you, and hold you captive under its spell.

Now that Gemma Fisher has inherited Penn, Lexi, and Thea's curse - and all the strange new powers that come along with it - she has no choice but to run away with them. Devastated that she has to leave everyone she loves behind, she's still determined not to give in to the unspeakable hungers that plague her. Unfortunately, they're growing stronger every day, and she's not sure how much longer she can resist.

Harper won't give up on finding her sister Gemma, vowing to get her back no matter what the cost. The search draws her closer to too-gorgeous-for-his-own-good Daniel, and tests her fiercely guarded independence like never before. She's always been the strong one who everyone else depends on.... Can she let herself depend on Daniel?

As Gemma and Harper plunge deeper into a magical world they barely understand, it becomes painfully clear that Gemma's old life may be lost forever. But can she still hold on to her humanity?

My Review:
I actually liked Lullaby more then Wake (Book #1). That is the second time this has happened this summer! We get to see what is going on with both Harper and Gemma again with both of their POV's in Lullaby. Gemma is off with the Siren's trying really hard to not be a Siren. Harper is back home trying to find a way to both figure out what Gemma is and saver her. This is harder then you'd think. She needs to figure out where Gemma is and what she is. She does figure it out eventually with the help of Alex and Daniel. Both guys are really helpful and a great support system for Harper.

We get to know the Siren's better in this one. They all have distinct personalities. I still don't like Penn or Lexi but, Thea was tolerable. Gemma struggles with the idea of becoming a monster and tries very hard not to be but, its taking a tole on her mentally and physically. Will she be able to survive being a Siren? Will her hunger and Siren nature take control? Will Harper be able to save her sister? They guys back home are different too. They seem to be immune somehow to the Siren's. It will be very interesting to figure out why.

I still love Daniel. I feel so bad for him because Harper is waaaay to into playing the mom. She feels like she has to much going on with Gemma to worry about having a boyfriend. Total crap if you ask me! I think she's nuts. However, towards the end she wakes up a bit. I have high hopes for those two. Alex is the knight on a white horse. He does whatever he can to try to save Gemma. Despite the myth that no man can love a Siren. Alex has true feelings for Gemma and it is very evident. I hope him and Gemma will have a chance.

I really enjoyed this book and I already purchased the next one! I have always been a big fan of Amanda Hocking and have high hopes for the next book!

Day 2: What's your bedtime reading ritual?
  • I do this every night. An hour or so before I actually go to bed I go lay down. This is just so I can get an hour of uninterrupted/distraction free power reading done. I do this every night regardless of the time. I always get that hour of reading in. Even on vacation or the weekends. I just stay up a little longer with those. Usually if the book is really good I blow through that hour limit and regret it at work the next day. Is that weird? What do you do?

15 Day Book Blogging Challenge- Day 1

So I came across this on some other blogs today and was like "I am so doing this!" The 15 Day Book Blogging Challenge was created by April at Good Books, Good Wine. This was a super creative idea and I fully intend to have fun with it! Here is the link to her Day 1 post: Day 1 Post Link

Day 1: Make 15 book related confessions
1. When I borrow people books I give them all bookmarks. Bent pages are the devil. If you treat your own books bad, I will lie about owning them in order to not give them to you.

2. I get really emotional while reading. If something is really sweet or someone dies or anything like that, I cry hysterically. My husband therefore think's I am nuts.

3. Sometimes I forget that characters are not real. I was in love with Edward from Twilight. No joke, he was mine. I have accidentally referenced people from books during a conversation and not realized it until after....I know, just paste the giant L on my forehead right now.

4. If I love the cover I am more likely to read a book. I will also buy the book rather then the Kindle edition based on how awesome the cover is.

5. I know you are suppose to read what you like but, if a book has less them 3.5 stars I don't bother.

6. I have more book boyfriends then actual friends.

7. If I love a book series I often forget to eat and sleep. I read the Twilight series in 4 days...Went to Walmart at 2 am for the next book (didn't have a Kindle yet!). The day the last Harry Potter book came out I faked being sick in order to stay home and read it...finished it that day. For the record I was in high school and it was totally worth it!

8. My To Be Read (TBR) list is ever growing. I buy books even when I know it will be weeks before I can read them. My husband HATES this.

9. When I get approved for ARC's or get something from an author I literally jump around/pet them/scream. Yup and I am an adult.....embarrassing.

10. I will always love the bad boy. Regardless of how much of a butt he is. It doesn't matter. Bring on the leather and motorcycles!

11. I don't always hate love triangles and cliffhangers when it's done correctly but, seriously NOT EVERY BOOK NEEDS ONE! Ok, glad I got that out of my system.

12. Blogging and reading are my only hobbies. I have ditched friends to stay home and read a great book. Wow, that one is embarrassing to admit.

13. None of my co-workers know I am a book blogger. At least up until last week! Someone asked me if I was Brittany from Spare Time Book blog. I said yes but, I felt like Batman getting his mask ripped off! I got all shifty and was like "they know who I am..."

14. I love YA even though I am an adult. Like done with college adult. My friends tell me I am to old to read them. I tell them to go screw themselves, I love them :)

15. I like Romance! Just slap me in the face with it. Some people are all like "Romance is just trashy and gross." I'm like, "I'm sorry you feel that way. If you will excuse me I am going to go dive into a world with drop dead gorgeous men who have crazy romantic passionate love scenes with their lovers. Enjoy your boring vanilla day!"

That was fun! Stop by tomorrow for day 2!

Wake (Watersong #1) by Amanda Hocking

Goodreads Summary:
Gorgeous. Fearless. Dangerous. They're the kind of girls you envy; the kind of girls you want to hate. Strangers in town for the summer, Penn, Lexi and Thea have caught everyone's attention—but it’s Gemma who’s attracted theirs. She’s the one they’ve chosen to be part of their group.

Gemma seems to have it all—she’s carefree, pretty, and falling in love with Alex, the boy next door. He’s always been just a friend, but this summer they’ve taken their relationship to the next level, and now there’s no going back. Then one night, Gemma’s ordinary life changes forever. She’s taking a late night swim under the stars when she finds Penn, Lexi and Thea partying on the cove. They invite her to join them, and the next morning she wakes up on the beach feeling groggy and sick, knowing something is different.

Suddenly Gemma is stronger, faster, and more beautiful than ever. But her new powers come with a terrifying price. And as she uncovers the truth, she’s is forced to choose between staying with those she loves—or entering a new world brimming with dark hungers and unimaginable secrets.

My Review:
Wake was definitely not the mermaid book I thought it was. It was actually a little darker. The book goes back and forth between sisters, Gemma and Harper. I liked how we got to see both sides of the story from the sisters. Their lives aren't perfect but, they get by. Gemma is on the high school swim team. She loves the water and swimming. Every night she goes on a night swim at the Bay. She starts to develop feelings for her sisters friend Alex. They start dating and things seem to be great. Until one night when her swim doesn't go the normal way. She ends up hanging out with the three girls in town Thea, Penn, and Lexi. Gemma ends up waking up in the ocean with Harper and Alex shaking her. After that things will never be the same for Gemma. Gemma is changing. She is more beautiful, she starts to feel funny in water, and her swim times are getting better too. However, when secrets are revealed these gifts seem much more like a curse. This leaves Gemma with a big decision to make. If she chooses love and family then she dies. If she goes with the girls she will be forced to do terrible things. What will she choose?

Harper is Gemma's older sister. Ever since their mom had an accident and was left with a traumatic brain injury she has been in a facility equipped to take care of her. Harper has kind of taken on the Mom role. I felt like she was more of a mom then a sister. She would do anything to protect her sister. Which is sometimes a hard task with a 16 year old. When Gemma starts acting weird and after finding Gemma in the water after being out all night. Harper can't get her to talk to her and Alex (Gemma's boyfriend) has no answers either. When the bodies of missing boys turn up Harper is more worried about her sister then ever. Will Harper be able to protect her sister?

Daniel is a hot guy that lives on a boat on the dock. Harper has run into him a few times but, they didn't end well. Over time Harper starts to open up to Daniel and he is there for her during some very hard times. By the end of the book I knew they were going to need each other in the future. Like a lot. Alex is Gemma's boyfriend. He is a great guy. Even though he is older, his heart is in the right place. If anyone can help Gemma break the curse it will be him.

I am going to start reading the next book right away because the ending of Wake was insane! I can't wait to see what is going to happen next. There was mythology in this story which I did not expect! I love mythology! Needless to say this was the surprising book that I enjoyed. If you like mythology and mermaids then this ones for you!

Things for Avery seem to just get worse and worse. During the 8th Vol. Sean in pretty much not there, except for the beginning. The parts that he is there for is steamy and romantic all at the same time. I am hoping so much that these two will be together. They are like to broken pieces that fit together perfectly. I think that they could help each other heal each other! But, they decide that they are better off apart. That they can't give each other what they need. This leaves Avery broken. She no longer cares about what Black will have her do. I think that Black is a vile woman who needs to get laid herself. Will Avery be able to see multiple clients? Can she let go and just do it?

Avery's other clients don't seem to end well. I'm glad that Gabe was so close. Things could have got really bad for one in particular. The one thing I loved about Black in this one is how she called Avery out. I feel like  she is jut playing along. That she won't actually do anything with these other men. I guess we will see. Especially with what happened at the end!! I was shocked at who opened that hotel room door. I need to see what is going to happen next because there are so many more questions now! Not only with the surprise client but, with what Peter said to Avery is still weighing on her. I hope she takes his advice.

Once again I need the next volume! I am in love with this series!

Wishlist Wednesday #54

Wishlist Wednesday is a weekly post put on by Dani at the Pen to Paper blog. Where you post a book you really really want to read or one that has been on your wishlist! If you've seen my to-read list on Goodreads then you know there are plenty that I could use. So I decided to use this feature every Wednesday.

Title: Between the Lives
Author: Jessica Shirvington
Series Number: 1
Release Date: 2013

Goodreads Summary:
Above all else, though I try not to think about it, I know which life I prefer. And every night when I Cinderella myself from one life to the next a very small, but definite, piece of me dies. The hardest part is that nothing about my situation has ever changed. There is no loophole.

Until now, that is...

For as long as she can remember, Sabine has lived two lives. Every 24 hours she Shifts to her ′other′ life - a life where she is exactly the same, but absolutely everything else is different: different family, different friends, different social expectations. In one life she has a sister, in the other she does not. In one life she′s a straight-A student with the perfect boyfriend, in the other she′s considered a reckless delinquent. Nothing about her situation has ever changed, until the day when she discovers a glitch: the arm she breaks in one life is perfectly fine in the other.

With this new knowledge, Sabine begins a series of increasingly risky experiments which bring her dangerously close to the life she′s always wanted... But just what - and who - is she really risking?

My Thoughts:
I have loved Jessica Shirvington's Embrace series. This sounds like a great book, exactly something I would love! I can't wait for it to release in the US. Have any of you read this one?
